Ok I dragged the photography module outside and put it on top of my car and snapped off a couple of quick pictures of where I'm at with this project:

I've done the initial coat of black paint (Steam Power Black with a little Grimey Black added) and made decals and added them. I've left most of the detail parts off so far because I need to install the sound decoder next. After that comes the detail parts and weathering to give this sucker a nice patina. 8)

Anyhow, its fun so far. This is part of a much larger project coming up to model part of the MILW through part of Wisconsin between Chicago and Milwaukee. More info on that later. :)

Well, it sure looks good to me! Will you be doing the squared headlight outline? That was a really a Milwaukee identifier.

Maybe you can get together will Bill Denton, and model an extension of what he's doing? :D

    Maybe... :D

When you say squared headlight outline are you referring to the number boards on either side of the head lamp or the box underneath the headlamp?

Not the side number boards, nor the one under the headlight. If you could look at that Stu Kurth pic of 314, straight on, there was a square rim around the lens. You can see it if you look closely. It was quite a distinctive feature of many Milw steamers.

How did you get the MILW decals? Did you make them (if so how)? Or did you purchase them from somewhere?
I bought 2 Kato Mikado's and need to decal them!

Jeff I made the decals on an ALPS printer that I own. It has the ability to print white via a wax ink process. If you'd like a set or two I'd be happy to print some up and send them to you. Send me a private message and I'll give you details on where you can send a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Boxcab - I worked on the square headlamp surround and number boards over the weekend and it turned out ok:

From normal viewing distances it looks a bit better. Now that I see it up close it is a bit on the large side. Might have to rework that a bit. :)

Hmmm. Might be slightly oversized. But I sure like the effect. Well worth your time. This area is almost entirely overlooked by most Milw N steam modelers. Certainly sets you apart from the pack!

Ok new improved version of the square headlamp surround is smaller and more importantly cut straighter...
