Last 7X8' section minus the 1X3's. (Back to the lumber mill this week, time permitting!) Still going with open grid benchwork so far.
Man Jerry, where have I been. One round trip on the long pool and a full day's held away and you did all this? I know the feeling of everything always gets in the way of your layout building. I have started and never finnished too many layouts to count, well two HO and seven N... I really hope to finnish my current Tehachapi layout someday, it is the "dream layout" that I have always envisioned. I drew up the plan about 10 years ago and it was almost built in HO scale in a buddys barn. I haven't touched it in over a month but thats how it goes, got to make some $$$ to buy all these new engines coming out.
Congrats on your progress, I am geting excited just seeing the raw benchwork in all of that beautiful space . I think there are allot of us in the boat of "I wanted to build just was not able to" This is my third attempt of an nscale layout (I have never done an nscale lout other than track on plywood) since 2000. The fatherst I got was in 2000 with painting of the rail room and the plywood temp layout. 2nd attempt never made it off the paper before I ran out of room (real life storage needs won). I have those fears now with attempt 3 . The wife has assured me we are a go!! this time (new and improved wife of course ) I look forward in seeing your progress, you are about a year ahead of where I am so I will learn from your lessons learned . ok, you can hit me for that one
everything you are doing looks just great. but ... you might think about adding a board here and there to allow the sections to become more "module" like. if you ever have to move out of that cavernous garage, you might like being able to take a section or two with you. ... just suggesting, while it's still doable ... great job, dave f.
Congats Jerry! I just started building my benchwork and was feeling excited about it, but wouldn't you know it, the "D" word is around the corner. Oh well, maybe next decade. Delayed once again!
Hey, The big "D" is what helpped throw me into this wonderful hobby. It freed me up to do what I wanted.Don't worry Donnie,it may look crummy now,but in the long run,the freedom is great. Right JD?
I don't want to Hijack Jerry's post so I'll keep it brief. Mike it's not crummy now, it's great! I welcome the change head on. My finances will need to be adjusted, but thats a small price for happiness. Thanks for your concern [ October 17, 2005, 08:53 PM: Message edited by: Don Rickle ]
JD, I am just getting to read all of this. Great to see it starting from the garage floor up. My layout is 50 inches high because I cut those 8 foot 2 x 4s in half and get 48 inches plus the layout. I don't have many grades, but I create valleys and hills NTrak style, above and below the level track.
Jerry - Your making great progress. It's cool to see the empire taking shape! Just keep thinking 199 train...
I wish I would have started practical like that.....wouldn't have these oddball sized 2X4's laying around!
Jerry, Your making me green with envy. Not only are you building, you a have a ton of space for your empire.
