Hi all. I am looking for maps showing the various routes that the more famous passenger trains would have taken. The trains I’m most interested in are the Cal Zephyr, the Super Chief, El Capitan, 20th Century Limited and the Powhatan Arrow, however I’d be interested to see any maps you know of for any RR. Any maps you can point me to would be great, the larger the resolution the better. I am making a map of the US (In AutoCad) showing the routs of all the more well known passenger trains of the 20-60’s I have searched online but could not come up with anything besides articles on these trains.
I would highly suggest the Atlas of North American Railroads from Motorbooks. It's a collection of railroad maps from old timetables and advertisements. It won't say explicitly what trains traveled on which railroad but if you can figure that much out you would be able to trace the routes across the maps very easily.
Everything you need to know about the California Zephyr: http://calzephyr.railfan.net/ They have maps and station stops at: http://calzephyr.railfan.net/cztt.html
See my reply to you on the Atlas forum. You need to get a few copies of The Official Guide. Will have what you need for every name train on all railroads. :cat:
Dave, The following site contains a great deal of information about Ohio railroads and maps for the state. In addition it offers system maps of several railroads such as the NYC, PRR, NKP, etc. http://www.railsandtrails.com/Maps/default.htm To view many of the maps you'll have to download the DjVu browser plug-in since many of the maps are in that format (link to plug-in provided on site). I've found several of the maps very informative and spent many hours pouring over everything that is on the linked page. The PRR system map with NKP overlaid from the 40s is one of my favorite. Hope this is something that will assist you in your endeavors.
