I think this is a great sign for a RR that did away with excursion trains! The last OCS trains I have seen have either been pulled by SD70's or GP59's... I guess they cannot spare them from raod duty :)

well i think that they should have kept the old SOU FP-7s that they had yrs ago that SOU used on such trains. Then when they got CR, they canned both of the completely rebuilt and road worthy E units. So now they change thier mind and want to get these? Well how long will this last and what are thier true plans for the units?

Amen to that brother!!! I can vividly remember 2 of em lending some muscle to help some of the smaller engines the TVRM used on their Autumn Leaf Specials, and also dont forget the E8 that the TVRM is also restoring:thumbs_up:

I still miss their steam specials. Dad and I used to try to catch at least one a summer.

The f units are to be used to pull the office cars and will be housed at the Juniata Shops at Altoona, lots of photos of the finished product are already out on the internet. The first unit has been painted in the black, with aluminum band at bottom with gold accents, NS logo - sitting at Altoona now. The office cars on down south now but the first excursion for the F units will be either the Masters tournament or more likely the Kentucky Derby. Don't think they will be ready for Master's but that was the first place they were to be used.

I hope to see them the first week in May here in Kentucky. I might even skip the meeting in Radcliff to see them. F units are worth it!

Wow I just love how the NS has forgotten about the N&W. That's great for all of us in the northern part of the Railroad. Oh well the checks don't bounce.

F units are supposed to leave Altoona Shop next Thursday for the trip to the Master's Tourney. They aren't ready yet but the higher ups are putting on the pressure, they want them for the trip. They are working double time to get them ready. There is to be a test run early next week in the Altoona area. If you are interested, I will post the times for the test as well as the departure next Thursday (when and If I find out :)
