Sculptamold is availabe at A.C. Moore in 3 lbs. bags for around $6. Go to http://www.acmoore.com to see if there's a store near you. Before I found out they had it I bought mine at Brick art supply http://www.dickblick.com/. I paid $7 for a 3 lbs. bag but they charge $7-8 for shipping.
My objectives are as follows: 1. Get Unitrack down from the tunnel at Stampede Pass, around the return loop at the end of the Cascades and back to the siding at the foot of Stampede Pass 2. Build the Cascade mountain range in the middle of my return loop 3. Get my DCC bus lines in place to support this track work 4. Drop feeders from each section of this trackwork 5. And finally, operate a locomotive throught the completed track work. This is ambitious for me to complete by the 19th of June, but I am going to give it my best shot.
I hope you dont mind Hutch, but this view is KILLER!!! ...and will be SPECTACTULAR once your finished! I can see it now on a magazine cover!
Thank you Mike. I don't mind at all You should see this shot with the viaduct bridge in place behind it now. It looks pretty cool.
Looking forward to more! I have my tree supplies on hand now, so some re-forestation will commence soon!
Matthew R: You say your layout progress is pitiful, but your panoramic picture sure is great! Regarding objectives for the Layout Party: I've got a weekend long layout open house coming up in mid-July for my NMRA Division and for 2 model railroad clubs I belong to. I hope to finish putting down 1.5 scale miles of branchline track and putting up cardboard mock-ups of buildings and industries along the ROW. I probably won't make the mid-June Spring Has Sprung deadline, but I expect be ready by mid-July. Dave H. Central Illinois Modeling the 1970s era Peoria & Pekin Union Railway in N-Scale
Cool Beans! I'm glad to see things progressing for everyone. Unfortuneately life has me occupied so my turnaround loop made with Woodland Scenic's Mod-u-rail system is on hold for the time being. But just cuz I'm slacking is no excuse for anyone else. Let's get some work done! Hemi, thanks for the credit but it truly goes to RSN for initiating the original "Layout Party". He established the guidelines, I just did the copy paste thing like you did :wink3ed:
Yesterday I started painting some rail. It is so much easier to paint before it is placed on the layout. Today I should put the very first track in place on the layout! Exciting!
Great news, Hutch! Keep us posted! I tried painting before laying, wasn't for me. This time, I lay track, rough scenic everything, and then airbrush the color on. In other news, my wife and I made someting like 50 trees last night... A few more details to tidy up, and I can then install them.
I've added the top level of terrain and since I can't stand the white... painting required then remove masking tape (for show) and a view form an angle to show off the details
So, to update my goals: Molds the landscape with sculptamold stuff  Paint base coat  Add some shrubbery Create rocky mountains using WS foam putty (love the stuff!)
Cool I havve weathered about four more locomotives, installed MT on three locos, scraped the plans for the Canton Divison to start something new, So most of my work is virtual right now
For those of you making progress on your layouts, good job! For me, the habitual procrastinator.... what was the deadline for the layout party again?
19 June.. I have procrastinated, too. The heat has not helped. Another priority has just come up--we got offered *and accepted* a house on base! So a big move in the cards. In between packing and stuff, I'll try to get some of my list done...
I started yesterday moving the layout table to a new room. started laying track for a new Layout Atlas: Out and Back modified. layed the roadbed (AMI) and starting ballasting but it's not coming out looking nice. Mostly parts are clumping, the tracks are cleaner then they look in the picture. Later on the track I've just ballasted between the rails and a little on the outside leaving part of the roadbed exposed.
