After a hectic couple of months I'm finally getting back into the swing of things. Currently on my workbench is a Miller Engineering building kit as well as an Archistories Enginehouse kit. The SP GP30 is my first DCC install (in Z), having some issues with the motor contacts, worse case I may hardwire it. Steve W
WOW, that is really nice Clyde! Great job on the paint and decaling. Ha, I got as far as you show in your pic on that ARCHISTORIES engine house, then got distracted with the Cafe' build. But that is a really nice kit. Keep us posted on the Miller building as well. Always good to see someone else approach, colors chosen, etc.
Oops, yes, I have to likewise (for now) abandoned projects, same thing: Archistories engine house and Miller Engineering brass kit, half way there, something else was more interesting. Hope to get inspired by your posts, thanks for keeping us informed. Matt
I will be sure to post any updates. So far the Archistories kit has been a pleasure to work with. Same with the Miller Engineering kit. I just painted it Tamiya Hull Red, it's a little too dark for a brick color so I'll either do an overspray or use PanPastels to lighten it up. I think a lot of us have the issue with half completed projects. I'm very guilty of that for sure. For now I'm not working on anything but these two kits, trying to maintain focus! Steve W
Finished my Santa Fe H12-44 road switcher. Thanks to Robert for helping me with the directional lighting and coupler installation! This is my best running Rokuhan conversion locomotive. It can pull five cars up my 2 percent grade. The brass shell was designed by Walter Smith.
Yes, Mack produced gas electric locomotives in the 1920’s. I’m scratchbuilding a 1924 Mack Boxcab locomotive. My locomotive is a little longer than the prototype due to the motor mechanism. Robert cut out the parts on his laser printer for me to build. For the pilot steps, side steps, and bell was cannibalized from a brass Boxcab. Still need to place hand rails, truck side frames, then off to the paint shop. Don’t believe anyone has made a Mack locomotive in Z scale.
Getting closer with my Mack gas electric locomotive. Finished painting, decaling, and placing window panes in the window sills. Robert Ray helped cut out the windows and made the decals per prototype. Also he cut out the diamond plate floor porches! Next is to make the lights and install the truckside frames!
The obscurity of this locomotive makes it all the more interesting. What companies used these? It truly looks great!
Wow, that came out just like the photo. Is this loco classified as a Boxcab Diesel? Nice work on such an obscure loco!
. The only company that I have found that used this type of locomotive is the Southwest Missouri Railroad.
Really cool -- really obscure -- and a fascinating one-off for sure. Nice team effort between you and Rob. Yeah, the diamond plate is a excellent touch.
Finally finished the Mack Gas Electric locomotive. I placed resin glue around the LED lights to give them rounded look, then painted them green like the prototype had. Robert was kind enough to wire them unto the model for directional lighting! After placing couplers and truck side frames unto the model, only a little touch up paint was needed to complete the model! View attachment 280108
