I just got in a lot of Atlas code 55 turnouts that I scored recently on eBay. The seller listed them as in new condition although it was evident that they had been at least set up on a layout since many still had rail joiners on the ends. This was one of the listing pictures. Included were 90-degree crossing (1) 1.25" straight (6 1" straight (19) 3/4" straight (4) #5 left turnout (6) #5 right turnout (6) #7 left turnout (10) #7 right turnout (6) #10 left turnout (1) #10 right turnout (1) rail joiners (4 packs) If you are counting, that's 30 turnouts in total. All in all just over $800 worth of track and switches at full retail. I took a chance and threw in a sizable bid at the very end of the auction and won the lot for $256 not counting tax and $20 shipping. The seller agreed to wrap all the turnouts separately to prevent any damage. Not even counting the crossing, all the short pieces, and the joiner packs it worked out to about $9 per turnout. I'm guessing the seller wasn't the original owner of this lot because when it came in, and I started inspecting them they all appeared to be in perfect condition other than the fact that 19 of them had the switch rod and adjoining head blocks clipped off on one side or the other with one clipped on both sides (far left lower circle) He had failed to mention this in the listing. Of course, they are still usable but will require more careful planning where I install them. When I messaged him about it he seemed genuinely embarrassed and asked what he could do to make it right. I probably could have asked for a partial refund but I didn't feel right about doing that since I won them for such a low price to begin with and figured I was still way ahead of the game. Basically, I just b*tched a little and then said to forget it. Cheers
A CP Rail coil car I'll put a coupe of post about un boxing and the little bit of assembly in my layout thread.
Flex track off the swap page here-thanks Sam! Between this and the unitrack I have, it’s about time to get after my industrial area and the main line through it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Unfortunately, I didn't ask and the seller didn't say. He was located in Canada so he would have obtained it there. However, both Walmart and Amazon carry one that looks very similar except for the blue color dividers and appears to be about the same size. 14 X 9 x 2 inches. One just removes the dividers as needed. The one at Walmart is only $5.86 but that doesn't include tax and another $6 for shipping. Amazon is $14 delivered to your door. Evidently, Walmart doesn't stock them in their stores. The trade name used for this model is "Flambeau Outdoors Tuff Tainer tackle box---model 5007", Several of the big chain sporting goods stores like Bass Pro, Cabelas, and Dick's also list these in 4 packs where it works out much cheaper per unit. Just type the name of the product into a Google search. Walmart Link: storage box with lid and dividers Cheers
Just picked up an Atlas Master SP bloody nose SD9 with DCC/Sound using a $25 off coupon at woo woo woo. The SP SD9 has always been a favorite since I spend my teens and early 20's in northern California where they came though Davis.
The Fedex guy dropped off some goodies today. Kato turnouts and magnetic uncouplers, a Bachmann 2-8-0 and a bunch of freight cars.
Visited the open house at the local club this afternoon. Came away from their sale table with this Atlas PS2 covered hopper and a fist full of Atlas flex track. I was told that most of the good stuff was gone in the first hour after they opened at 10:00am but I am happy with what I got. Next time I'll get there when they open.
Finished up early on the farm Saturday so I was able to catch the later part of a local train show, my first in several years. I picked up an Atlas Rutland RS3 for $40. After bringing it home and looking it over, I placed it on the track and while the light came on it wouldn't move but you could feel and hear the motor buzzing (I only moved the throttle up a little past half). That's when my light came on and I wondered if it was DCC? After wiggling the shell off, sure enough there was the decoder! That's also when some of the handrails came loose and I noticed the ends of the bottoms were red. Upon a much closer look I found it was custom painted and someone did some very excellent work! I saw on the box that it said CP Rail but I just thought someone just was using a different box than the locomotive came in. I don't have DCC so I can't really test it out or run it, but someone did put a lot of work into the custom paint on it and it looks great so for now it will just be on display in my cabinet.
A custom numbered and lettered Kato Mikado. It needed some TLC but is now running fantastic. Sent from my SM-S901U1 using Tapatalk
Just picked up an Arnold SW1 which I had been seeking for quite some time. It will soon become a Milwaukee Road unit.
Oh yes! just had to buy too upon seeing it. The paint and detail is exquisite with minimal plastic look. Removed fake dock light and replaced with 2 LED light lamp posts. Easy to incorporate into a non-Woodland Just-Plug lighting system.
