Hmmm, I would have guessed that P.O. Box costs are the same across the country given the federal level of the USPS. Our HOA has a P.O. Box, the smallest size, that costs $130 for 12 months. $45 for 6 months is a bargain!
I would have thought the same, too!. Here it is $134.00. Strange. I wonder why the difference? It is!
I had thought that this was bad news: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1844921384...4df08fd237c41d75e275|ampid:PL_CLK|clp:2499334 Then I saw THIS: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2843209879...MX7ontZ8AaKYlCj9UwEe|ampid:PL_CLK|clp:2047675
I'm thinking the postal costs are the result of the China business. A lot more to cross that big ocean or get stuck in the canal.
Man, you're not kidding. I'm nearly ready to start building my train table and found this today for a 3/4" x 4' x 8' sheet of cabinet-grade plywood, double the price of when I last checked.
I looked really close at that bunk of plywood....and I just cant spot the flecks of gold in it anywhere...hmmmmm...
Correction. Last year's fee was $150 (for the year) for our P.O. Box. But I'll be damned! I just got a notice for $176 for this year's fees!!!! That's a 16+% increase! I would love to have my salary increase by 16% and I actually produce something unlike a P.O. Box. You watch, they will blame this on Covid. And you wonder why everyone ranks on USPS.
When I was released from the army in '72, I was offered a job at the Post Office in Oconto Falls. But, my uncle was the postmaster there and told me - "Don't even bother with an application". Up until now the biggest issue was when I put in a request to have my mail sent to my brother for three months. They went ahead and send change of address notifications to everyone that sent me mail. I wonder if the three rolls of 'For Ever' stamps will still be good.
I don’t know how many of these FGNSL -FIRST GENERATION N-SCALE Locomotives- I’ve received, cleaned them up , added new rapido’s or MT’s , Built a Cab Roof , added Handrails , replaced the original motor . Tom
Just ran into a friend yesterday who's in the mailing business. He said that P.O. Box rental rates/fees are set by the Postmaster of the respective towns. So I would imagine it would cost more to rent a P.O. Box in, say, Beverly Hills than Anywhere, Wyoming. That explains the discrepancy in rates that we briefly chatted about a few posts up. Interesting in that it cost the same to mail a letter in the 50 states but renting a P.O. Box....
We pay our PO Box rent every 6 months because we are actively researching an alternative to having to use the expensive USPS po box. We dont want our 'business' mail attached to our home address. There has to be a cheaper alternative...somewhere. Damned if you do...damned if yo dont !
When my wife did CPA work on the side, she used a Mailboxes Etc. store PO Box and I've since seen the same at UPS Stores. Like you, we didn't want to use our residential address.
Thanks for the laugh with this one N Minitrix Fairbanks Morse PRR Diesel H-12-44 Loco knuckle cplrs(Tested no box) | eBay , I bet I could place my MILW , AC&Y and PC FM'S on ebay and charge $130 and some odd cents. lol Tom
I often wonder if eBay Sellers get excited when they see sudden interest in one of their items, not realizing it's us at TrainBoard clicking on their listing for a laugh.
To wit, postings like this for a $181.99 G Scale boxcar in the N Scale>Parts & Accessories>Parts & Spares> area: https://www.ebay.com/itm/393227419083
And here's another one . Trix Minitrix 12700 BR98.7 0-4-4-0 Mallet Steam Locomotive N Scale NIB Germany | eBay Tom
Possibly because they’re not aware of Model RR sites like ours Trainboard due to just wanting a train set for the kids then they grow tired of it box it up, store it somewhere until a clean out of old unwanted stuff for a garage sale or the inevitable a move then ebay and choose a $ which is as close to what they’ve paid for the set in the beginning. which I find almost ridiculously outrageous. Tom
The demand would be an N scale logging railroad but some work would have to be done to Amercanize it. Old Minitrix locos ran reasonably well.
