Me, too. And pics. EA/EB, 1937 E-1A, 1937-38 Two E-4As and an E-4B, 1939 E-4A E-5A, 1940 TA, 1938, seen in the early ‘50s They were all photogenic.
Yep. That's exactly what they did (cosmetically). Of course, they did make them much better locomotives.....
Yes they were. It's a shame everything looks like boxes on wheels now. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
My claim to fame is I was the first kid on the block with an E5 long before Kato. I kit bashed a Life Like E6 to approximate one. I know, there were a few brass models out there but I never came close to one of those.
I thought this was a thread about Santa Fe E-1 units. You know what? I went back and looked at the OP, and this thread's actually about the B&O 51 Class! And they looked pretty darned good! Not enough stainless steel, though.
How easy it is, for a bunch of model railroaders, to run of the rails....... Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Actually, this thread has pretty much stayed on course. It's all about early EMD slant nose locomotives. They're all part of the family!
Well I guess that I have you to thank than Russell. I never even dreamed that Kato would release an E5, but because you put in all the time and effort to build that beauty, it just had to mean that Kato would release one. Right?
You actually have to thank Charlie Vlk. He pointed out to me that some of the new Budd cars that Kato was just releasing at that time were all that I needed to create the Sam Houston Zephyr. He provided me with the car names to go on each car. The only thing he could not provide me with was an E5. So, I had to come up with my own. However, as soon as I finished the model and photographed it, I sent a slide (did not have a digital camera at that time) off to Kato USA. They immediately put it on their web site page that featured photos sent in by customers. I think it was similar to this image. Anyway it took them a while but I did my best to plant the seed.
Yep. The diner and domes from those original corrugated sets are correct for a Twin Cities Zephyr. They just need to tool the parlor/obs, the baggage/cafe and the E5B and we'll have one exceptional name train! At seven cars, I think it just barely qualifies for one of their bookcase sets, which they really seem to embrace. The only thing more beautiful than an E5A unit is one with a matching E5B coupled onto the rear.
Back to the B&O EAs: If you don't want to deal with those beautiful brass versions on the not so great mechanisms, here is a 3D print you can use to build your own. (No relationship and don't own one, so can't vouch for these.) https://www.ebay.com/itm/3d-Printed...246811?hash=item4228bbefdb:g:fEoAAOSwljNgBJYT
The EA doesn't look bad, though it's hard to see if the roof is any good. The person who programmed that seems not to have ever seen a pic of an EB, however. The real EB booster had rectangular, full height windows like the E-3/4/6B. That not only has the wrong windows, but way too many of them.
Either that, or what I took for a builder's shot is a later pic of an EA coupled to an E-6B. Not sure why that didn't occur to me sooner...
