I was just talking to someone who has ideas of painting some modern locos in BCRail two-tone green, which got me thinking, I might prefer a modern locomotive painted in the older Pacific Great Eastern orange colours with the green stripe. I already have an SD40-2 to propagate a fantasy fleet from:
One more to add to the list: I just noticed that Atlas is releasing Long Island RR C420s in two versions of their 'wave' paint scheme, which was essentially just the Milwaukee Road's bicentennial paint scheme. It would be a small matter to simply apply some Milwaukee Road logos and make them Milwaukee locos. Too bad the Milwaukee never had C420s... Now, if only Atlas would do GP38s in the same colours.
I can't believe it's been almost year since I posted on this thread. On my initial post I mentioned doing an EJ&E fantasy which since then I managed to do two. here's one of them. My other fantasy was doing one of my avatar the GM&O. If any of you browse e-bay especially the dash 9 sales then you have probably seen some of my other fantasies that I've been selling recently. In fact I'll be posting another tonight on e-bay, and I have a few more in the works. I'm especially proud of my BNSF blue paint scheme.
I like the EJ&E unit. The colours on the GM&O are a little too stark and indistinguishable from an NS painted unit. I could easily use a BNSF blue unit like that to run as pool power along side all my fantasy milwaukee stuff. I noticed there's a C&NW unit in one photo too. If I had my way, something like that would never have existed, because the Milwaukee would have taken the offer from C&NW in the mid-70s to buy it out, and the only way a C&NW Dash 9 would have shown up is if the Milwaukee had decided to do a heritage unit .
I call this a should have been paint scheme - I wanted to see what SP's lone RDC-1 would have looked like in Daylight colors. Thanks, Wolf
One of my very first fantasy paint schemes. Atlas/Rivarossi C-Liners that Santa Fe never had. They did have a few Erie Builts that were bigger with two C trucks. But, in the 1960s you took what you could get. They have since been re-powered with cut down Con Cor PA mechanisms. I body mounted MT couplers on the pilots that I attached to the shells. They pull like tractors.
Wolf: I want one! Qith all of the fantasy schemes that ConCor did (and they had an RDC model), how did they miss this one?!! Beautiful!
I may have posted this before but never to this long standing thread. One KATO and one FVM, my 2 favs.......
Mixed in with many of my D&RGW hood units is an SD40 with the billboard 'Rio Grande' lettering. When I bought it at a swap meet, I didn't realize that D&RGW did not own any SD40 units... oh well... at least it is a Kato SD40. Sent from my SM-J737T using Tapatalk
I have my fantasy locomotive in planning. I have an extra LL DL-109 that will be painted for the Penn Central. The PC actually had one, but it was orange. It was used as a MOW generator. It was also the last DL-109 in existence !!! Mine will be painted "right" (black with white "worms") and pull a PC commuter train similar to the "Valpo" or "Dummy".
