I have been trying to build up my fleet of hoppers for the C&O, B&O, NKP and N&W. These were a couple of old Athearn 4 bay hoppers that I removed the lettering on, they were Burlington Red, and I did not believe that the Burlington had 4 bay hoppers, so they were painted black. Painted with Scalecoat II Black paint and lettered with Champ Decals, I have a few more of these cars to finish, I think I started these about 10 years ago and found them last week and decided to finish them. Built in the 20's and 30's and were repainted in this scheme in the mid 50's. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Nice work. Favorite part of the hobby to me is doing just this. I am spending so much time building my layout, I have ignored freight car painting, building craftsman kits, and most of all, decaling and weathering. I purchased a crazy amount of decals from the Champ folks between '08 and Sept. '10 when they folded. I'm set for life w/ C&O and other steam/diesel era decals. With mostly weekends to work on the layout, I've ignored the workshop. Good luck building the fleet.
Doing some work on my E-9's (Haven't started on the E-7B) In the beginning: Some details added: Just about ready for service: Thanks, Wolf
I was looking through some old photos last night and found this one from 1969 or 1970 of my first permanent N Scale railroad. Those are Arnold Rapido power packs and the layout is all Arnold track. I remember that the master power switch on the panel to the right had a hot bulb in it covered by a slotted metal cap that would sear my forearm if I touched it.
Thanks. My Dad built the table for our Lionels, hence the tall sides. It had a base of cabinets beneath. When we later moved to a new house, the table wouldn't fit down the basement stairs, so my Dad had to cut the entire base in half with a Skilsaw.
It is surprisingly difficult to build up a representative fleet of B&O hoppers, I am having this issue for my Dad. Those Athearn 4 bays a remarkable close to the B&O W-2s! I too have a few in build but for all Athearn did offer them in B&O livery they are all the same number so I need to re-number but have difficulty finding decals. What is the number for the Champ set you used? Look forward to seeing more hoppers!
The set I used for these two cars was BRH-77 a Blue Ribbon set with correct numbers and data. I am currently doing a couple of more cars using a set the Ed Sauers produced for the B&O Historical Society. We had to pre-order and pre-pay to get these sets, so I doubt any are around for sale.
