I will try this one more time: Sorry if it's another intrusion. I had a dream about this last night and remember a birthday present (23 Nov.). It was suppose to go around the base of the Christmas Tree but just not did fit. 100_0114 by Shortround posted Feb 4, 2018 at 2:52 AM So yes I do have a caboose. Actually two but, I can only risk showing this one. 100_0113 by Shortround posted Feb 4, 2018 at 2:52 AM
I believe in the early 60’s? If this picture is recent as I think, it is only used as a shoving platform and is not used in general service. That is probably how it’s able to retain the walkway.
My 3 Cabeese, a BNSF shoving car, a Frisco and MOPAC modernized waycars. Not truer to prototype but work for me. All have had the roofwalks removed and the end bracing/rails reworked.
Actually, it's used as a backing platform for whistling crossings along the five-mile industrial siding. The caboose was one of the original IC units built sometime in the late fifties or early sixties.
Hi Hytec, My mistake, I was thinking backing platform but wrote shoving. Old age showing!!!!!! Thanks, DB
Backing and shoving are the same. Just different terminology from different RRs and geographical areas.
Cabeese- My late mother, an English teacher, had a fit the first time she heard me use that term, but regardless, here are a few of my favorite cabeese: 1. A couple of Pere Marquette classics: A471 was a wood caboose built in the 20's. This is a Walthers Proto model and is actually a DM&IR car that was extremely close to that particular class of PM caboose. A909 is all steel, built in 1937. This car is in the possession of the Steam Railroading Institute and occasionally still rolls behind Pere Marquette 1225. Most of its service today involves carrying the markers on photo freights with 1225 and the SRI's collection of transition era freight cars. Model by Atlas. 2. CMGN #1(now HESR #1) is an ex GTW transfer caboose once similar to GTW 75061. Both cars were built at GTW's Port Huron, MI shops. Both are Bluford Shops models.
I would like to show you my new caboose but Postimage will not let me do so and nobody will give me a usable site to link to. Thank you all.
Are you using an app or a browser? I have to use the browser version to load any pics up Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
This is my latest little puppy ca The hitch is a little strange. European I think. It's a Marklin and appears like it could take any other coupler that is body mounted like my Bachmann cars. This is opened. Sorry they aren't clear my digital camera doesn't work well up close. Maybe I should start using my 40 year old 35mm.
I’ll throw in another one. This one is a wood kit from AMB of an early Frisco caboose. I added working marker lamps.
I'm considering these! Is Atlas ok to start and is $22 acceptable for these? Help! I'm new and don't want to ask my boyfriend Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
Railmix, An update on the caboose PM A909 - She is now one of the regular caboose fleet at SRI, one of three that makes every run of the North Pole Express in the Christmas season. She was refinished inside and out a few years ago, and received new trucks last year. Take a look at the recent videos of the North Pole Express on Youtube and you will see A909 and the two ex-Ann Arbor cabeese right behind the locomotive. Cabooses go in the front of the train as they are a first-class accommodation. They are available for a flat rate per trip and carry up to 12 passengers. I a volunteer at SRI, in the backshop. Nice looking model, by the way! Rachel, Here's my caboose contribution from the Rochester and Richmond. This is a Walthers wood-sided caboose model. George V.
Thanks for the update, George. I didn't see the A909 on last fall's Alma-Owosso trip- Just the two Ann Arbor cars. Glad to hear there's been some work done on her. BTW, Nice winter scene.
