Just checking in. Have not been on in a while. Been trying to get motivated to start the new layout. Or, at least get cracking on the layout room that I have already started.

Progress has been slow. Started layout room but have been re-evaluating what I want to do. Not sure of Boise sub or straight Camas Praire early 80s. If I go Camas Prairie I can sell of about half my power and rolling stock

Good to have you dropping in again Tony. For myself, I am trying to coagulate all my stuff needed for a road trip to the Oklahoma City Train Show this coming weekend. The NTRAK group up there always throws a Mini Convention before the show and I am on the docket to make a presentation about modeling a prototype scene on Thursday evening. Then Friday we set up the layout for the show. Run trains Saturday and Sunday and then tear it all down and go home.

Doin' fine, really good to see you back.

Hey, take a look over to the T-trak side of the world here too, that's kept me making piles of sawdust and stuff I can transport over the last couple of years.

Even if you design in just a small portion of a new layout to those standards, it's a great way to tinker. I made my long-delayed West Hickory PRR interchange portion of the Hickory Valley to T-trak specs and it's opened up a whole new area of opportunities and creative flow.

Good to see you back! I've been out of the hobby for a bit and wondered what had happened to lots of the folks I used to see on the forums and in print. Still remember your snow dozer as a remarkable piece of modelling!

To me it seems that the forums are not what they used to be. It seems like when the Atlas forum was taken down a downward spiral began. Newcomers to the forums have no conception of the way the forums used to be. Of course 'back then' there were more product releases and some heated debate, sometimes very heated, over the pros and cons of each release. I recall when the Kato Mikado was initially released it was severely panned as it was unable to pull a decent amount of cars. Then the tender drawbar issue came up. Kato came out with traction tires and a plastic framework to hold the tender and locomotive and what do you know the Mikado was suddenly hailed as the gold standard of model steam locomotives. The debate was lively as well as entertaining and educational (at least to me). I'm still learning things, mostly about DCC. I help out at a model RR club for youngsters. I show them basics of tracklaying, scenery, etc. and they teach me DCC. And it all works out.

    Wyatt,

Yes still in El Paso. Retired here in 2012 and remained. Not going anywhere soon. How have you been

    Thanks

I haven't done any modeling for about 7 years now. Went through a nasty divorce but ended up with all my trains. Started a layout about 2 years ago, just been busy with other hobbies and not super motivate like I used to be.
