Curn, Looks great. I will heed your advise on the orange. I try to avoid a clear coat / fixative if at all possible. The fixative itself sometime hinders the decal from conforming. Alps also has a "finish" cartridge that applys an overcoat, that may be a consideration.
Tony, I have several types of finishing film....we may want to test how each type works. In the past I have not been thrilled with the results, but that doesn't mean that the 5000 won't work with the newer finishing types.
Hi Guys, I'm back, it’s only been 4 years! I thought I'd start my return from where I left off, with the Sierra Railroad decals that NikkiB & Curn kindly produced for myself and some others back in 2008 (this thread)! I have used them on seveal locos and the set of 4 RF16s, no good photos yet but hopfully soon! Here are numbers 18, 28 and 34 and the Gosport American Railroad Group's show last month, that's Gosport in England! NikkiB & Curn thanks again! James
Sure, bring up something that I want but probably can't get now. Nice models anyway. Still, if it's possible to get the decals, I will take several sets...
Sorry JMaurer1, probably doesn’t help that I have about 25 locos that I am currently decaling up for the Sierra Railroad and will be posting up pics then! :teeth: But I had to say something, NikkiB & Curn and did them for me when I lived in San Francisco and then I disappeared without showing the result, some might see that as rude! Hopefully I will be forgiven.:uhoh:
Hi PGE-N2, yep RF16's. In my world the Sierra purchased an A-B-B-A set from the B&O to hall coal/ore (haven’t decided yet) over the Sierras to replace their Y6B (photos to come). Here are units 52 anf 52A................ 53 53A are basically the same, all have been fitted with DCC and decaled. Plus I have fitted a draw bar for permanent close coupling; I had issues with microtrains and unimate couplers bending down and uncoupling when under heavy load due to the loose fit in the Bachmann coupler box. All they need now is the decals sealing with Testers Dullcote and weathering. Hear are the drawbars.... And here they are pulling a heavy load up a 3.5% grade at the GSMRM pre decals and drawbars before I moved back to the UK.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2m4VsfnwA20&feature=plcp James.
James, so then you won't feel bad that I'm sending bad thoughts your way? I hope your decals never get wet!
I forgot about the ones for the RF-16. Jeff, I got your e-mail. Sorry I haven't replied yet. Working retail in the Holidays leaves not much time for anything else. I think I have a set or two of these still stashed away. If not, I can print more. Fair warning though, the Orange ribbons are basically worth more than gold right now so I will have to figure out a price. I only have half of an orange ribbon left right now and I need it for some IORY loco schemes.
Hi Skipgear, yep, they worked great. Thanks for everything you did. My next running club meet will be in February so I plan on getting some good photos of all 4 then. Sorry I missed you off above, its beam so long I forgot who was involved, thanks again! James
Skipgear, if it makes a difference I can live without the orange doors, I just need the rest (when you have time of course). Just knowing I can get them amkes my Christmas
Did not see any passenger coaches mentioned in this thread. We have a couple "Overton" cars based on the Sierra Railway cars and would like to decorate them.
I designed N scale Overton decals back in 2009. The decals should cover all eras of service. You will have to consult the history books on placement and which ones to use. I designed it to use one sheet for all 4 Overtons, however if you are doing Overland cars, you will need 1 sheet per car. The overlands use the long "SIERRA RAILWAY CO. OF CALIFORNIA" decals at the top. The baggage and business car are fantasy. I had Stan Cedarleaf of Cedarleaf Decals http://gold.mylargescale.com/StanCedarleaf/WebPageDecals/CustomDecalsx.html print them. He likes to work with Photoshop files. Here is a link to the *.psd file that Stan will need to print them. Its 3x2 inches and 1200 dpi. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7ZoOwvrPFchX1VDTEF3WmRpR28/view?usp=sharing I corrected the "RY." text, it should be "Ry" (Smaller Y), so you'll have more accurate decals than I did. Regards Matt
Stan Cedarleaf did not reply to my email. Contacted Highball Graphics, but they cannot use the .psd format. Do you have a high-quality PDF?
Here is a PDF. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ycPNlemGF3BtJNci_AGY07ql-Zo2I4tj/view I made this set in Photoshop, so there isn't a vector version available. The PDF is 3.146 x 2.000 inch, 1200 DPI.
Shawn, Sorry for all the trouble. I re-made the artwork in Coral Draw. It's all vector artwork now. I converted all the text to curves so there shouldn't be any issues with missing fonts. Have Highball try the following file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pq3bswVg8ntWfJKVwlZk8c5KWHF6tsTB/view?usp=sharing Matt
