Came across this on eBay. (no affiliiation) http://r.ebay.com/oDQoOp MKT definitely had some Frankensteinian locos over the years, as I'm sure any of you with MKT annuals are well aware. Thought this was a pretty neat n-scale model of the RS3M that someone has put up for sale. I'll admit I haven't looked it up to see how good of a representation it really is, but it definitely has the "look and feel" if nothing else! Anyway, just thought I'd share...I would love to bid but since MKT is not really my primary modeling focus I'll likely just be a spectator on this one.
Although late in the life of M-K-T, I really liked that green scheme. It was bright and the yellow stripes really stood out well.
For some reason I always like the Baldwins that EMD converted for the KATY better. And then there were the goofy looking GP39-2s they bought from Kennecott that had the high cabs. Katy cut them down to normal height but the profile looked somehow different to me.
Maybe it was the smaller fuel tanks with the higher ground clearance. It made them look sort of like all-terrain locomotives.
Yee Haw. Here is one of them with a real cowboy at the throttle. Katy picked these up in 1984 and they probably lasted until the UP Borg assimilated the railroad.
