    Hi all,

I finished a few weeks ago a locomotive project. It was a Walthers Proto E9A (SP). I disassembled the locomotive / shell / details, removed any paint and started off modifying and detailing the cleaned-up shell to get an E8m as it was in service with the ATSF in the mid to late sixties. Changes included modifying the rooftop cooling pipes, removing the dynamic brake, changing horns, adding / removing grabirons, number-boards etc. Detail parts were from Details West and Plano, for number boards and winterization hatch screens, while the rooftop platform antenna was scratchbuilt from styrene and milled styrene. Colors used were from AK, Alclad, Gunze, Tamiya and Winsor&Newton. Decals by Microscale.

The locomotive has been weathered in various layers using oils / enamels as well as salt weathering on the rooftop and airbrushed acrylics.

Some photos of the finished model.
I hope you like it and thanks for stopping by.

Looks very nice. The weathering seems perfect for a loco in passenger service.

Pretty! Just the thing for a San Diegan.

An E unit as the Santa Fe intended for it to be. Looks very different from E1 #9 that it was first built as.

Eagle2, acptulsa and Russell, thank you very much for the kind feedback! I really enjoyed the build, with the exception of paint removal / disassembly. I got a couple of PA's with die-cast shells that are destined for the same treatment.
