Ok - finally - as promised: 4449 on its 2001 trip through Washington State - specifically the Yakima area - in these shots: In these next few, let's pay no attention to the fact of the pics being taken out the window or through the windshield of a moving vehicle... Another of our favorite fireman! This is one of my favorite shots of all time - in fact, I have a black and white print of it hung in my living room: Some passenger cars... ..aaandd .. that's all folks. Now to see if it will let me post all those at once .. Actually no .. I chopped 5 of the 25 posted, it will only allow 20 at a time. Brevity is the essence of wit - I doubt anyone will miss those five. More or less duplicates.
MaxDaemon, thanks for posting those! 4449 looks good in any colors. Wheelihan gets another publicity shot, too. It's so sad that those Montana based passenger cars were sold, otherwise the 4449 might get out more often, as in the days when they were available. Now it 's necessary to contact private car owners and pay for transport to Portland and back as well as the trips.
From one of my Kodachromes, HAGER Tower in Hagerstown, MD taken July 1982 in all of its "Armstrong" glory. HAGER has long since been razed. The Hagerstown Roundhouse complex as seen in the background survived for several more decades, but it too is now gone. I'm not sure which railroad operated HAGER, but I will guess it was the PRR. Perhaps Boxcab has a train order from here that will help. Is that the Ops' Chevy Corvair?
