We're back from another winter weekend, how did you do? Saturday was a busy one. I finished all the decals on the D&RGW GP30 and let it dry to await dull coat. Next, I started on my buddy Brian's 2 rail O scale collection, which never really goes away, it just keeps coming back. This time there are two brass open hoppers, two Atlas PS style covered hoppers and a caboose. Since these too are Bloomer line models with paint schemes inspired by the CB&Q, The caboose has been painted aluminum and all the hoppers save one, are grey. The one exception is the pink one. Yes pink covered hopper. Why pink? I'll reveal all later. I also received a pair of N scale models in December for a modeler in Chicago. The Kato GE Dash 9 and EMD 70 MAC will also be getting CB&Q colors in a BNSF fantasy scheme. So Saturday was mainly assembly, washing and paint prep and painting. A good solid days work. Sunday, I took it easy and played with slot cars again as well as caught up on a few episodes of Roadkill. Yes Sunday was kind of a car day, don't judge. My primary plan was to get some break-in time for a new Atlas loco, and I managed a few hours doing that while I cleaned the basement. I might sound like a broken record, but the trackwork on my original roundy-round is awful, and I'm just about ready to tear it all up and start over. What's preventing that is that I'm in the middle of working on my switching layout, and I don't want to divide my time too much. I also made some progress on a bashed warehouse for the switching layout. Paint, roof and details, and loading dock roof were all painted and are ready to be attached. This will be an odd week for me. I have today off for MLK day, and I'll get Friday off for the Inauguration (I work in DC). I do have to go in tomorrow, but work from home on Wed and Thurs, again because of the impact of the festivities. So I should have some decent modeling time, even if just a few stolen moments here and there throughout the days. Add in the time saved from not having to commute, and I should have a relaxing and productive week.
Made some decent progress in my industrial complex. Finished up and installed some signs, crossing gates and wigwag signals (I have a bunch more signs to finish and install). Also painted a parking lot. Started on the block wall for the firehouse. Thanks, Wolf
Had a good weekend. As predicted on Friday, it was unpredictable. Actually ripped out a reversing loop because the curve was too restrictive, broadened the curve to minimum of 30" and got the new homasote put down and painted. Managed to work w/ a problem engine that had "runaway" disease and FINALLY got the reprogram to work and it is back to normal. Spent Saturday working on bridges. Got both side trusses built for a Walthers double track bridge and one side wall finished for a CVM Parker, 200' Double track bridge finished. Late Saturday and most of Sunday, broke out the air brush and finished (weathered) 3 hoppers that have been sitting in my workshop since I started the layout room. Weathing, decaling, building cars is actually my favorite part of the hobby. Also air-brushed the brick walls for the new Albemarle Station. I am using a Walthers big brick building passenger station but am painting the brick white, similar to how the brick was painted on the C&O's White Sulpher Springs station. The below is a shot of the 3 hoppers I weathered. It was a good weekend.
Worked on the module for the upcoming Springfield MA train show. Dear son loves the true crime shows on TV and created a crime scene. Next weekend we will finish with more detail.
