Not quite. N scale is 0.54375 the size of HO. As a result, you need 26"×52" to properly translate a 4'×8' HO layout into N scale and those extra inches can matter.
A couple photos of my half completed 2 x 4 layout with Unitrack. Because of the tight radius curves I only run small locos such as the RS-2, NW2 and 40 foot freight cars. I can run larger but it doesn't look as good so I'm happy to make the tradeoff. If I were building it over I would probably make it 26 x 48 just to give a little extra space on the edges.
Very nice! I went a little wider on my first layout for just that reason, but was shorter than 4' because I didn't have the space. Looks like a fun way to run some trains.
Here is my simple 2 x 4 layout, that I am still changing the track layout every so often. Excuse the bad picture and paint job on the track side building. Did it years ago and have to fix it I also have a second 2 x 4 that makes and L shape, but it is usually under the bed Haven't runs trains in month's until last night. Weird kind of interested now that the holidays are over. Would think it would be the other way around.
I am just building a 2x4 foot layout so am looking here for track plans. Just no room for anything bigger. I am into logging RR stuff. Have a new never run Atlas Shay, and am getting a resin climax A kit from standbys. Logging cars are short so am thinking maybe a 2-6-0 as well as the logging locks. It's the plan and turnout size I'm worried about.
Pilotdude; I love your layout, gives a guy some running time. Mind if I try and duplicate it? Appreciate the photo and track plan.
