I was unsatisfied with the heavy weathering of the first attempt. Because I used pastel chalks, I was still able to tone it down to something more desirable. :)

I'm getting very close to finishing my "New" 4-4-0! Tonight she arrived at the paint shop and got her first burst of new paint! I'm going to let this set overnight then tomorrow I'll go back and touch up all the bells and whistles and such.

This new handrail is one of many detail upgrades to come. It is attached by 3 posts along its length instead of bending into the body at either end like the stock handrail. This shot shows how it follows the shape of the boiler instead of running straight from cab to nose. Yuck, that old bell housing has got to go...
