MRC is listing on their website the Model Power FP7 with DCC and sound with a list price of $159.98. The website says "New item soon to be released". No release date is given. Maybe others have heard of this before but this is the first I have heard of it. Yeah, I know but tooling up a new shell and a metal one at that would only add to the price. I used to be picky about things like that but not anymore. I got a PRR AA set of the original release and I run them all the time at train shows on our Ntrak layout. They are very dependable, good pullers and along with my LifeLike FA/B 1's enjoy 'most favored locomotive' status with me. My only wish is that MRC/Model Power would make a F7 with both A and B units.
I can't believe they are putting out the old Rapido couplers. Sure thought we were past that. Espeacially the fine folk at MRC. What are they thinking? This looks like or reminds me of the old N Scale, Marklin FP9. I have two of these with different chassis under them. I don't remember a FP7 having been put out by anybody in the past. But then I'm getting old and have learned that things have been going on longer then I originally thought when doing some research for BarstowRick.com. True! $#!+ has been going on longer then I thought. It is what it is.
Model Power did the FP7 when they originally put out all the small steam. They did it in two versions, a 'trainset' and a 'hobbiest' version. They originally came with Rapido couplers but were easily switched out with a MT 1015 on the front and a Unimate short "T" shank on the rear (for AA use).

I'll leave you to your own conclusion. Oh, I won't be buying one of these as Santa Fe never had them. Unless someone else can prove differently. Grin!
They MUST have had them. Just like Atlas assures me that the Santa Fe had FM "C-Liners" running 2-3 wheel setups. That's what they say anyways.
All Tramps Sent Free practice was to have a steam generator in the B units, only, on Electro-Motive B-B truck "covered waggon" units. Thus, I doubt that anyone could prove differently. They could use the same shell, just a different paint job. I wonder if that would cost so much. Consider that MRC did introduce a paint job on the B&O USRA light pacific that MP never offered. These and the LL FAs are ideal N-TRAK power. As you correctly state, both are excellent pullers and will run all day, every day and are quite tolerant of rough trackwork, which often comes up at the joints between N-TRAK modules.

Another for the SP&S was the Spit Pop and Sputter. Came from the worn out steamers they acquired form the parent lines.
