Spent this weekend packing the materials for the future layout once the move is done. And since my major scratch building days are behind me next is to cull a lot of my parts both structural and locomotive parts. Already have a good home for them so that part is out of the way. Also culled most of my larger passenger fleet since I will only be running a few of the shorter passenger cars. My next big culling is my locomotive fleet that has become surplus and I am going to start with all of my older stuff that won't run on my tighter designed radiuses staying with my little 4 axle switchers that will become the mainstay of a much reduced fleet. So starting in the next week I am going to be putting most of my Alco fleet of FAs along with some steam that is no longer available on Swap meet. Then the newer stuff a mix of Atlas and some Kato. I am probably going to offer the FA as sets.
What brand and version of FAs are you offering? If Lifelike do they have plastic or metal frames? Would you sell an A-A set?
Everything I have is Lifelike as far as the FAs go. I have yet to start sorting them out and taking photos since they are still in storage. The bulk is the LL FA-1 but there are a few FA-2s but in the case of the FA-2s the Bs are powered. When I get everything together I will list it on Swap Meet and announce it here.
Managed to clear the workbench ahead of time so broke out the first sets of FA-1s and listed them in Swap meet. I do not have boxes for these since they were kept in a car case and the boxes long since gone. http://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/downsizing-my-motive-power-collection.90654/ If these move well I will list my passenger power both 4 ans 6 axle next followed by more freight power and then some steam.
Well the first batch of locos was shipped out last week however I'm still awaiting to receive funds for a small lot remaining to be shipped out to the west coast. The 2nd batch of locos is now just waiting to be posted on Swap Meet. Have finalized my roster of what I will keep and will have enough locomotives to have either an all steam or all diesel roster depending on what I want to run on a given day. When the dust settled this is what remained. Turtle Creek Central Steam Roster 4 Atlas Shays 2 truck oil fired. 2 Class A Climax oil fired. 1 0-6-6-0 Mallet oil fired. 1 Atlas 4-4-0 oil fired. 2 Atlas 2-6-0 oil fired. 1 Athearn 2-8-0 oil fired. 2 Bmann 2-8-0 oil fired. Total 15 locomotives. Turtle Creek Diesel Roster 5 Bmann 44 tonners. 2 Bmann 70 tonners. 3 LL SW-9. 1 LL SW-8. 1 Atlas/Kato RS-11 1 Kato RS-1. 3 Kato RS-3. Total 16 Diesel Units 14 Caboose units. Considering my downsized layout plans far more still than what I actually need, even double heading some trains.
These leave you the option of rotating a few on and off the layout, for variety. One or two could in the shop for overhaul, paint, etc.
I have in the parts box a couple of complete chassis including frame with pickups for the SWs so I can keep them going for awhile. Also have a spare couple of chassis and motors for the RS units. And currently parts are available for the 44 and 70 tonners. So in good shape for the diesels. The rod engines are the ones I really don't have many parts for but my geared steam is mostly new and the Class As have Bmann 44 and 70 tonners for mechanism and there should be some parts support for the Shays. Add to the fact that I have about twice as many locos as I will need and I should be set for the rest of my modeling years.
Well a three trucked Shay, a factory produced Class A, or Class B, or C Climax, or a Heisler. Can't see getting motivated to buy anything else.
Over on Swap Meet I have just listed my next batch of stuff in the downsizing. This is all passenger power and one set of cars. Prices are listed with each lot. http://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/downsizing-part-two-passenger-power.91031/
Over on Swap Meet I have adjusted some pricing down on the remaining passenger stuff and added the remaining diesel units that are surplus or no longer needed. You have to scroll to the bottom of the post to get to the revised price listings and the new stuff. For clarification if it isn't shown with a box there isn't one. Locos were kept in a foam case. http://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/downsizing-part-two-passenger-power.91031/
The downsizing is going well and I want to thank the folks who have already given a new home to some of my motive power at their engine facility and on their home rails. Have a lot on my plate right now with the impending move that gets closer day by day. So if I am a little slow to get back to some folks it is because I am busier than the proverbial one legged rooster, multi tasking. Just yesterday we managed to get about 10 boxes packed, some to go with us and some to go with the movers. The train stuff definitely goes with us. I'll probably leave the current crop of offerings up on Swap Meet about two weeks then take it down. What is left of it will go to a consignment and estate seller. The last offering will then go on Swap Meet which will be my excess steam collection.
Hopefully I'll be able to help you with some of that excess steam. My budget can't even cover those CB&Q Fs right now Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Did some price adjustments on the last of the diesel remaining. http://www.trainboard.com/highball/...nsizing-part-two-passenger-power.91031/page-2
Besides severely reducing my diesel inventory I reduced the motive power for the Turtle Creek again. When the dust settled there I came down from 31 locos on the roster to 23. The new and smaller roster consists of the following. Turtle Creek Central Steam Roster 4 Atlas Shays 2 truck oil fired. 2 Class A Climax oil fired. 1 0-6-6-0 Mallet oil fired. 1 Atlas 4-4-0 oil fired. 2 Atlas 2-6-0 oil fired. 1 Athearn 2-8-0 oil fired. Total 11 locomotives. Turtle Creek Diesel Roster 5 Bmann 44 tonners. 4 Bmann 70 tonners. 1 LL SW-9. 1 LL SW-8. 1 Kato RS-1. Total 12 Diesel Units I can run all steam operations, or all diesel, or do a mix. This pretty much sorts it out finally and if some of the steam dies it won't be replaced. I have enough diesel in storage or parts such as motors and truck assemblies to repair or replace much of the fleet.
