I got This Athearn RTR SD60 Oakway, 9085 a few weeks ago, got it damaged although a bit more so, that I thought it was. Luckily, I had all the handrails needed to repair them, had enough stuff to fix the rest too. Its all good cause the prototype had some serious damage in a wreck as well. When I was working in Alliance, was able to photograph the real one and was struck at how bent the frame was on the thing, I mean it was very noticeable, front of the fuel tank, and kinda surprised they didn't scrap it. At the time is was still fairly modern power, and man those SD60's has some outstanding service records in their day. Here are a few photos of the real one. As you can see it was pretty fresh out of the paint shop. Other than the differences in the paint from the other Oakways, the Black EMD logo was kinda wierd, but who cares it made power and pulled whatever was coupled to it. Here is my version, albeit in the later stages of its service for BNSF, it will be in service (as I hope to be) here as shown for quite some time to come I did a little experiment on the FRA Yellow stripes. Used my old ALPS printer, with a White undercoat, Silver layer, the 2 Yellowish layers. it has that look of being reflective. Anyways, as always thanks for stopping by and having a look, Please carry on.
Thanks Boxcab I always enjoy seeing yours as well as everyone's modeling here, so much talent! Bobby that UP AC6000 unit looks just like a few of them sitting right behind my house. As with all your work it is just outstanding.
Thank you very much Tom. I enjoy see your builds and the others that many fine modelers post here and other places. Regards, Bobby
Thats a fine looking SP SD40, everybody needs a few of them. Looks like a Rail Power shell and frame maybe?
Yes it's Railpower body and frame and the drive from a Athearn SD-45. Rail Detail handrails and Detail West details. Just had to use the number 8444. I did the paint job with Floquil paint and Microscale decals
Just a heads up watch out for a special announcement for two train board exchange boxcars to be run for the HO forum
My favorite locomotive type: The EMD GP30. And this one is in the best colors: Denver & Rio Grande Western
Got This Athearn Burlington Northern, RTR GP50 3110 on sale, a pretty good deal from my Local Hobby Shop, like to try and support them when I can. I wanted to model the short lived Orange and White striped nose on this loco. Used White stripes from a BN decal sheet to go over the Black stripes, and a few detail parts, along the way. Painted the nose handrails Black, detailed the trucks, some weathering from chalks and airbrushed paints. The photos found didnt show them very badly weathered, probably cause they were still fairly new at the time. Thanks for stopping by,
Very nice Tom, so when are you going to break out the red and white paint? Actually it looks very good. I have one of those in the stable, I notice you've added some detail parts, besides the sun shades. What all did you add? Thanks, Dale
