Sad state of affairs..... Imagine getting the call for this response--getting into the "moon suit" and finding out it was only sand (as the manifest should have indicated for this car number)... Doh!
I don't know why anyone would be nervous about the contents of tank cars. That is just silly. "You really need to be more mature about this, Linda!"
Probably urea for use in fertilizer. In that format might be the best case scenario for cleanup. It does not appear to be in contact with moisture or other chemicals.
No water thankfully as Fountain Creek is far enough away from there, but in that area there are houses just out of sight on the left side of that photo so it got a lot of press. Jason
Ammonia sulfate, as I recall from the local reports. Another non-hazardous spill, however there was some intitial concern it might have been ammonia nitrate, which would have been a different scenario altogether.
