I just noticed that this month (March, 2015) marks my fifteenth anniversary here on Trainboard. Back in 2000, when I joined, I was member #300. I wonder how many of the 299 before me are still here. I know Russ was here before me as it was a post of his on another forum (I'm thinking it was the AOL forum) that got me here. So you guys can blame Russ for my presence. A lot of thngs have changed in those short fifteen years. The Atlas forum is gone. I was with that in all three of its versions and to me the first Atlas forum was the best of the three. Along the way I joined other forums but the Atlas forum and Trainboard were always the top ones. With the demise of the Atlas forum Trainboard is unchallenged as the No.1 forum. Who knows what the next fifteen years will bring. Maybe a new computer cause this thing is really slow by todays standards. As a matter of fact, fifteen years ago I was on a 56K modem on a dial up connection and it was slow then too!
That's cool. So much has changed. On here & in all our personal lives. I know myself, when I joined, I had no problems, a great job as an engineer on NJT. Life was great. Now, not so much. It is better than it was a couple of years ago, healthwise. Throughout everything, Trainboard has been there to provide an escape from reality. This as always been considered my home. For that, I am grateful to Charlie, the admins & all the members. BTW, I'm the oldest member of N Scale.Org.
Congratulations on the anniversary. No idea what number I am, but I'm so gratefully to have found and become a member of Trainboard, and its community of great people. I remember when I upgraded from a 56k to a 90k (i think it was 90, maybe 92?) modem. Man that was fast.
12.5 years for me. I started out with the Atlas Forum about 2000; however, I was a visitor here at Trainboard until I became a member in September 2002. Trainboard was an alternative because Atlas was a much more active venue at that time. Trainboard had few topics on a weekly basis and was often inactive for days at a time. Many members of the Atlas Forum used to chide that this site should be named Train Bored. Trainboard got the last laugh. The antics of the 'characters' over at the Atlas Forum pretty much doomed that site and now the most active and interesting venue is Trainboard. Happy to have come over when I did... and commend the originators and many volunteers on their work to keep this site going.
Communicating a few days ago with our site owner, he remarked as to how we'd quietly slipped past that mark and started year 16.
Yes, Congratulations and Thank You! for all of your contributions. After all, it is the people that make Trainboard. My thanks to all of you. When I think of all of the life and model railroad events that have taken place over the past 10 years I can't help but be grateful for all of it and all of you.
Had to go back and look when I joined. Been 11 years and a few days since I joined up here. Man how time has flown. Used to be over on AOL before here, and until a few years ago was a member of a number of groups on Yahoo all train related. Left Yahoo when they had a big hacking issue that compromised a number of members E-mails and after a number of direction changes that just weren't for the better for the consumer.
I've also been here since March 2000, no idea what my number is, although 208 rings a bell. I've spent more than half of my life as a Trainboard member!
As the site has been moved from it's original software, the numbers are not what they were at start-up. They've actually shifted downwards somewhat.
I'm a relative latecomer here having joined in 2011. I was on the Atlas forum, I think, since the beginning although it has a 2004 join date for me there. It seems I remember something happened and I had to rejoin. I do like this forum. I've been on the N scale mailing list since the beginning of that when Bill had it a Stanford University. I guess I figured I didn't have enough time, while still working, to participate in too many forums. Now that I'm retired, I have joined two other forums also. Doug
Nice and I must agree this is a nice place to be on for us Model Railroaders. I've been here 8 years next month myself
Not really. I seem to remember that 8 years ago...I was Googling something to do with n scale...and a TrainBoard post by Russ came up in the results. I lurked here for a year before joining. So I suppose Russ dragged me in here too...LOL 7 years...hmmmmmm...I guess that makes me one of the 'youngins' as far as membership goes.
June of 2000 for me. I had put model rr on hold for about 10 years before coming back in 2012 and see my start date is still showing. Whenever I neded help this is where I came.
I don't know who suggested I join up, but I was on the Atlas board at the time too. I can blame it on Russ, too, since he's a convenient target... I'm not quite to 15 years, but almost. Congrats on 15, Inkaneer!
Congrats to you all. I joined in 2006 so I'm not quite at the remembering the 'glory days' stage. As you work your way through this thread here's a pleasant thought, where will we all be in another 15 years? Where will our hobby be in 15 years? Cheers, Jim:uhoh:
