Sorry for disturbing the conversation, but here are some pics of test piece introduced at Tokyo Japan yesterday. See links. https://twitter.com/tamtam_tm/status/502733786480533504/photo/1 http://www.jp-ngauge.info/ngi/2014/08/kato15jam-290e.html Arx, Boxcar Red Collection
Nice! I particularly like the pony truck wheels' profile, among other things. Can't wait, although I will likely wait for the TTG version.... Great to see more steam coming! Otto K.
Chris, Nick and Mark complain about baggage cars will be back in a moment ;-) Looking good so far; hope Kobo Customs does a bling version with those gold wheels.
Starting to look very nice for the FEF; how about the UPP 119 Kenefick with GPS dome behind it? It is probably me but the dome looks a little over size? I want to see more pics, wonder how the power car and water tenders are coming along. Definitely excited. LOL!
Here is another shots I found. Water tender seems not represented. http://tprr6.progoo.com/bbs/data/tprr6/img/193_72af160124.jpg.jpg http://tamtamtetsudoubu.blog96.fc2.com/ arx, Boxcar Red Collection
Gives an error. Will have to click on http://tprr6.progoo.com/bbs/tprr6_tree_r_127.html and go to the bottom link and it pops up the picture you are talking about. Couple of the other links/pictures on the site. So least you know the power car and Kenefick are already in preproduction stages. I bookmarked that site to watch and see if any other links get added. Chris
I didn't realize it, but Columbine doesn't have ISH trucks, and none of the other 6 cars they are doing have ISH trucks either. I wonder why they are doing ISH trucks. UPP 207 (Power Car) has a front 3 axle, rear 2 axle OSH, UPP 202 (Willie James) is OSH, UPP 5779 (Promontory) is a 3 axle, UPP 7001 (Columbine) is OSH, UPP 8008 (City of Portland) is OSH, UPP 119 (Kenefick) is 3 axle trucks, and UPP 5473 (Portland Rose) is also OSH . I didn't pay attention to that detail until now, I figured it was correct and didnt think twice about it. Is there any UPP cars that do run ISH? I haven't done that research yet, as I hadn't gotten that far on research for my other cars. Chris
You forgot the four most important cars! UPP 6334, Art Lockman, Tool Car - 6 axle UPP 209, Howard Fogg, Boiler Car - OSH + 6 axle UPP 5714, Lynn Nystrom, Baggage / Recreation - OSH UPP 5818, Reed Jackson, Concession - 6 axle The express boxcars run on something else that doesn't match either of the Kato renderings. T'is a head scratcher.
DOH! Yes, yes the important debatable cars! Course I have 13 other cars that are going to have to be replaced with OSH trucks too. No clue on the express boxcar as I don't believe anyone makes a version of the car itself unfortunately. But from pictures, I almost want to say they are ISH type trucks. And it depends on what timeframe you are going to use UPP 209, as they ended up replacing the OSH with a 3 axle truck to compliment the front truck. UPP 207 and 208 still support 3 axle in the front, 2 axle in the rear. UPP 2066 has two 3 axle trucks under it. Of course, if you want to go back to 2005 or earlier, UPP 205 has OSH, and UPP 206 has OSH as well. UPP 205 I think is still in Cheyenne, whereas the 206 has been sold, and has different trucks on it as well. Chris
I know of multiple sites still taking preorders. I don't think they are sold out. I'm pretty sure my dealer is still taking preorders as well.
I dont know if I should pre-order. Mabey wait til I see the quality of the production first? Positive reviews first then buy 2 or 3
I debated that same thing before I ordered considering the track record of drivers of the GS4 (only because I was an unlucky victim) and the Mikado, but it seems like they are trying to not go that route again. Also I guess I just have a little faith in Kato as well considering their products. Chris
Kato have done three or four new Japanese steamers since the GS4 to practice their skills and the Japanese mindset of making good your mistakes will surely see any defects that slip in quickly rectified by Kato. I have more confidence buying steam from them than anyone else making U.S. N scale. I'm holding off only because I'm waiting to see if they do a backdated steam era version.
????? the consensus from Union Pacific nitpickers is that this model DOES represent steam/transition era FEF-3s...all the way up to the 2005 outshopping...the only one it doesn't represent is the 2-tone gray version with the worthington feedwater heater... the Kato 'set' is a transition era FEF-3 with a modern 'excursion' set of "Water Bottles" and a couple of new Excursion cars added to some previous Kato cars... The preliminary pics pretty much nail this... Bruce
I have to agree. I have four Kato Japanese steamers that run beautifully. The FEF will be my first Kato US steam loco and I have no reservations that it will run just as beautifully.
Here's another UP business train consist for you - this one passed through the Twin Cities a couple of hours ago, which jives pretty nicely with what Kato will be releasing in their six car set (half of the cars in the set were represented in this particular train).
