Geez, let it go already. If Pennsy didn't sell well for IMRC and they ranked it accordingly, what does it matter? Sounds like smart business to me.
IM should run an SDP45, in the roadnames that owned it. I could use a GN one as they were common on the Seattle to portland pool trains. As for companies not producing a road name, that's what decals and paint are for.
Yeah, an SDP45 would be sweet but unlikely to be done any time soon. I'll take the Southern Pacific SD40M-2 rebuild variety.
I hope that IM does a really good job on these.......Now for the first two tiers of releases i doubt I will be buying any, that being said hopefully by the third tier they will release WSOR units.... I believe every release that any manufacture does new I will always give them a fair chance. until I see other wise.
true, I was thinking though of the many GN and SP fans when I posted that one, hmmmmm the possibilities are endless... I could always go for some C636's, I'd like to see IM make those, or the C424's and 425's. N scale is lacking late era Alcos, perhaps a C415 as well. After reading the RW thread I can agree to some of the points, but I'd really like to see more varied types of locos run and rerun in alternating cycles as well as road specific details and more roadnames. perhaps even more undecorated and decals.
Anyone have a list of some popular roadnames/schemes for the second run? I'd like to see an MRL and FURX in the green/silver scheme.
The SD40-2 and SD38-2 use the same frame, along with the SD45-2. The standard SD38/40/45 might be 3" shorter than the -2, but they all should be the same length.
FWIW the IM FTA & B are superb running locomotives. I own 12 of them and have had no issues with them. DCC enabled they crawl along and have a set prototypical top speed. Detail and painting also excellent. I have Kato, Athearn, MP, Atlas, IM, Walters Proto, and Bachmann engines and they are as good as any.
I thought about making 38-2s with those shells from that guy, but I just don't have the time anymore. I am in full-blown lazy RTR mode these days, if anything. If it has been this hard for the 38/38-2, then I guess SD39 is pretty much out of the question. Although SF did run them, which is usually a plus. But imagine Illinois Terminal SD39s... Oooo Ahhhh.
I would agree with that provided the company actually made PRR models and they did not sell. Then they would have something to back up their position. But the point is that they never made any Pennsy models with the exception of a few cars [3 boxcars] that, according to their own website, sold out. They also have one gon tentatively scheduled for sometime in the future. Again, that is according to their website. So in reality they have no experience to justify their position other than a personal bias against the one railroad that, despite its demise almost 50 years ago, still has the largest historical society membership in the world.
Is there a corollation between the number of members in a historical society and N scale modellers? Maybe the 3 boxcars that IM did in PRR took forever to sell out, and they didn't make that many to begin with? And why do they keep making KCS covered hoppers? What are they up to now, 60 different road numbers? Don't they know that the PRR was the Greatest Railroad Ever in the World and they should quit wasting valuable resources on a third rate barely Class 1 rinky-dink railroad? Haven't they also made passenger equipment in PRR, or are we going to split that hair and say it was really Centrilla Car Shops? Should I be angry that ESM doesn't make SP boxcars because of a personal bias? I need to send him an email and badger him at all the train shows I see him at. How dare they ignore the Friendly Southern Pacific!
As I've said before, there are many of us that wish the manufacturers would pay more attention to "our" road. Looking at the release, I both was and was not surprised to not see MoPac. Was, because as memory serves, they were a significant customer for that model, albeit mostly without the DB's. Wasn't because I sort of (cynically) expect the first runs to overlook Jenks blue. Which is why, in part, I learned to use an airbrush in the first place and got a great deal of satisfaction out of painting my own locos. Having started hobbying with plastic model kits, I enjoy the process of finishing my own and get the added bonus of choosing the road numbers for myself.
That's exactly how/why I learned to airbrush - I wanted a lot of Mopac Jenks Blue SD40-2s. I'm still surprised that Kato didn't release a non-DB in Mopac, ICG, Soo and maybe a few other roads given their investment in the non-DB tooling. On another note, I bought a few Cotton Belt IM SD40T-2s that had warped shells and IM quickly replaced them, so my experience with them has been good so far. I have a fleet of kitbashed and custom painted Katos, but would probably buy a couple of IM SD40-2s if they release a non-DB Mopac or ICG version and the reviews are positive.
Tim, agreed. paint and decals are made for a reason, now to get an airbrush so I can properly finish them Alco F's....
