2004 : European Vacation - Germany Once at Heidelberg Castle I was surprised to find a Funicular (Bergbahn) Railway within the walls. Out tour walked up to the Castle but I understand this is something "modern" that was installed for those that can't make the climb by foot
I didn't realize there was a funicular in Heidelberg. Our guide didn't mention it when we were there in 1998. I would have loved to have seen it.
Found these two websites that might be worth checking out; looks to have been around for a long time but with recent improvements http://www.bergbahn-heidelberg.de/en/Home/Welcome-to-the-Heidelberger-Bergbahnen.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heidelberger_Bergbahn

Am trying to figure out what the cars are here. Looks like this one is carrying some sort of metal sheet? Or?
I have not seen anything like them and they alternated in direction... Here are a few more shots of this same train

Some sort of enclosed rolling stock. But what commodity? Can't really tell the car size from this photo.
2004 : European Vacation - Germany Another passenger train; this time near Sankt Goarshausen, Germany
2004 : European Vacation - Germany Here is the short video clip those shots came from. I found allot of the engines looked like a "box" and many of these seemed to be just their normal way of getting around from town to town
