I've wanted to put this in the "What's on your workbench?" thread, but I don't want to pass ahead the recent interesting threads that were just being put in. So I thought I should start my own thread, and update it as I go along. Since last November, I've been doing some tests to create a cantilever signal bridge, making 2 format available, (short and long). It very much resemble what's available in Brass for bigger scale. So far, I'm happy with the results, I've let dropped each assemble bridge 3 times on the floor (a 30 inch high fall) with no breakage what so ever happening to them. The units are very light, that's probably the reason it does not break. For sure, when this structure would be glued on a layout and if being hit by a passing tool or hand, some of the "top" hand rail will break. I've broken 3 that were 0.025" long and had repaired them easily, it does not even show once glued back on, so I would included a few of those tiny bars in extra's But I've wanted to hear some feedback if this would be acceptable as a kit product. Made of 0.010" Laserboard the MSRP should be $ 14.95, which I think would be a good alternatives to the more expensive Brass kits. Regarding the other project in the back, it's a CP well car, I'm still trying to acquire better drawings views to finish both ends. so far I was able to find some of the husky's drawing on the freepatentsonline site http://www.freepatentsonline.com/5054403.pdf and some other well cars source here http://jbrail.railfan.net/Drawings.html I also still need to build some containers that goes with it, because the weight will be in them, it is the only solution I had found since weight by itself can't be put into the well car light structure. Plus, I just bought a N scale blue CN well car for study and to take measurements to create a Zscale version, this blue prototype one is not easy to find, (drawing speaking) So If anyone has drawings of the CP well car or the CN blue double stack car, I would be very much interested to have some copies. Ben
I was going to make animek appreciation thread the other day because your structures are amazing. I love the new Zebo and house kits you made. Let me say, I cannot wait for these, exactly what iv been looking for for a while, without having to scratch nd bash my own. Cant wait keep up the great work AM!
Thos are all AWESOME projects Ben! The signal bridges are the best! That's a great use for the .010" Laserboard.
Ben: As you know I've built a number of your kits including a Beta issue or two. After seeing these I am sooooooooooooo glad I waited for something like these to come along. Fantastic. ...don
The 2 version kits should be ready beginning of February, I still need to deal with the wood base that simulate the concrete block, and if either or not I'll include the acrylic tool I've made to ease the plying process for the light shades. I'll announce where to acquire the kits in this thread when ready. Ben
ya know . . . . those light towers are going to be a hit !!! Send what ever you can this way and some green stuff will be gladly exchanged ! I'll figure the 0402 LED wire runs. .
If these are actual working towers with red, green and yellow bulbs, I'd be interested in picking up a few as well. The price is sure right.
Hem No! sorry but they are not, I really don't know where you could find such working electronic equipment at that scale for only $14.95 Even a Nscale cantilever signal bridge "without" electonics is sold at $44.95 I've put tiny colored acetate circles that you glue behind each holes of the light head structures, but can be replace with SMD led's if you have the knowledge & skill to weld them, using tiny wires. Ben
I think what Ben is saying that functional is possible with proper electronics and such, but one would need the skills to make it happen. Ben is quite right, you don't get something of this quality and working also for a small price. This will be a highly detailed kit with great eye appeal, whether working or not. Quality costs........period
Like I said a few weeks ago, I would announce on this thread the availability of any new kits, so here we have two new kits of Cantilever signal bridges (Long versions on the left & short version the right) all made with 0.010" Laserboard. I think those are the fastest kits to assemble I have ever created so far, they take only a few hours to assemble if you count the painting process (Max 5hrs in all per kit). Even thought I never broke any of the handrails on the tops, they are very fragile, the frame has to be manipulated with caution before and after the plying processes. I've also design a light shade folding tool, it is mostly a die. I had put it available separately in the case anyone would like to purchase more than one signal bridge kit. Then only one die is needed. Both kits will be available at stonebridgemodels & zscalemonster Ben
Ben, that is an ingenious little tool you made there. Very clever and useful... I'm watching the mailbox for our supply of them. Excellent work !
M3 Stuart load on a 40' ACL flat car N scale have their M3 Stuart tank load with a 50' flat car Now I have my own M3 Stuart with a old ACL 40' flat car (decals are not on the car yet.) it can probably hold two M3 on it.
Cat whisker....the one's that you can find on the floor from time to time, not pulling them out of course. So it can easily bend without breaking, and since they are usually white, it was painted black. Ben
Do you realize half the veterinarians in the country have a new disease to check for -- missing cat's whiskers. ...don
