UP City of LA is the next train set from Kato. Are we finally gonna get a UP dome lounge, dome diner and dome observation? I'm not sure if I'd rather have those or an early version City of LA with E2's:tb-confused: I really like those E2's too.

More Info: Set for an April 2011 Release, the next in line for Kato’s “Classic Train Series” has been revealed: the classic Union Pacific “City of Los Angeles” train, in all its glory, with a series of Union Pacific E9 locomotives to match. The 11 Car Set will come packaged in an elegant collector’s case with display Unitrack. Additional details, including car numbers and names will be revealed as time counts down to the International Hobby Expo, this October 21st-24th. Consumer days are the 23rd and 24th - please feel free to visit our booth there if you plan to attend! We are always thrilled to meet hobbyists and hear their thoughts on our products, both past, present, and future.
That entire list and the only thing even mildly interesting is the GS-4 in Freedom Train paint, so sad. At least the wallet is safe. I have to think that this is not the "doozy" Kato is planning. The result of the new cars for this train could be a possible "doozy" though. These cars should finish off what is needed (minus a generator car and one or two others) to make the Heritage fleet. That with steam power in front would be a "doozy", anything less is a "snoozy" as somebody else put it.
For me,this is bitter sweet news. I have collected the car sides to do this very train. I figured this may happen!! LOL!! Now maybe I'll gather up the sides to do a "Sunset Limited". Thanks guys for the heads up, Wolf
That's my take on this one too. Often times I wonder if manufacturers are holding off on that FEF3 as a sort of Ace in the hole. It's going to be a guaranteed profit maker for whoever finally commits. MRR manufacturers (well, those capable of such a product) seem to be doing alright given the economy. Maybe they've just been saving this one for a rainy day? (I'm just thinking out loud here, sorry to wonder off topic. )
Woo Hoo! Choo Choo! I don't know, maybe I just like trains, or maybe I'm a Kato fanboy, but this looks like another home run for Kato. I like Armour Yellow, as long it's not patching SP scarlet and grey. :bear-angry:
I wonder a couple of things. Will any of the cars be Milwaukee Road? How many cars could be used to make a City of San Francisco which ran with the City of LA East of Ogden? Mildly interested but not jumping up and down.
This is all we need. More Utterly Pathetic in N scale. I am sick of UP this UP that. How about some NP stuff for once?????????
The Union Pacific Salt Lake Route by Mark Hemphil has some great photos of this train. 4 or 5 E's per train how can you beat that?(FEF, duh )
And this from: "Feather River Train Shop"...well...not so quick. I've tried to post a link here to a page that shows "New Announcements". It just isn't working. To see the page do a oogle google search for Feather River Train Shop and click on the first one that pops up. Any of these cars can be used in any of the UP name trains. You can make up any train your heart desires or use these as they were designed for the City of Lost Angels. I'm wondering, if the dome/observation has a flat nose with rounded corners?
