Well I finally finished up the EMD SD70ACe Demo. Came out pretty good. The roof was challenging but I just took my time taping it off. I also have started a GE Hybrid on an FVM GEVO. Still have some taping off on the cab to do but I'm close to getting ready to put decals on it. Still have to figure out if the top of the nose (where the anti-glare panel is located ) is painted black. Anyone know??? Pics are attached.

I think your work looks great, ..what type of tape do you use for achieving such crisp lines on your paint jobs ? And...I assume your using an airbrush ? F.Y.I......I use Black Vinyl Electricians tape, lay it on glass, take a sharp razor blade to cut out shapes. Decrease adhesion of the tape by sticking it on your hand a few times before laying on your surface to be painted. fatalxsunrider43
I use Tamiya brand tape for masking things off. It comes in a dispenser which keeps the dust off of the edges plus it is flexible enough to get down into the details. I also utilize a Paschee airbrush with a #3 tip.
Hey J,they are both sweet paint jobs! Is the Demo spoken for???? On the Hybrid, did you mask the leaf? If so thats some very impressive work. The Tamiya tape is the best thing since sliced bread!
Jason showed me that a long time ago. I have used many rolls since then. Fatalxsunrider: I cannot imagine using electricians tape and being successful. Of course, I have never tried that, so I can't say it doesn't work. That is a new one to me. JDG: Those are certainly beautiful models and wonderful masking jobs. I did once mask the Bloody Nose of an SP unit and that did turn out well. But that is nothing compared to these beautiful engines. I probably need more practice.
That is serious tallent. Looking forwaerd to seeing the finished product. The hybrid loco is too gool. Wish they'd do one (actually BOTH of these) for those of us that can't paint like JDG.
The leaf is actually a decal. This way the GE logos (which are not in the pic) match as they do on the real thing. Would have been hard to get the paint just right. Working on the side sill striping so not too much longer on this one. Numberboards should be a little challenging based on the way FVM did them. Jeff
