Sweet, would luv to see more of this. Is that Tamiya tape?It doesn't ,look like it. At least we now know where all the un-dec SD70's went to lol,it's so hard to find them. The CN units look excellent, would be great to own one of them.....
.008 seems to be about right, but of course that is personal preferance though. Also with this if you make a wrong bend or something you usually can straighten it out, but then when you try to rebend it usually breaks so be very careful!
I love how you detailed these NS SD70m-2's yet I was needing some information on which Microscale Decals was used on the plates and the sd70m-2 labels on the cab? I also wondered how in the world can you mask off the white stripe on your NS locomotives I tried but the paint started bleeding under the tape.
Normally when I am doing the side sill stripes I shot the paint at a 90 deg angle to the tape. It also helps to sometimes have the airbrush slightly above the tape line and shoot downward.
Here are some photos show how I have mask off the white area, labels and datas on the cab are custom decal. Hien.
These photos also show exact same way how to mask off and they came out nice and a clean line and ready for decal. Hien
I see the decals that your using but I have the microscale 60-4161 EMD 70 series and wondered if that the one everybody is currently using on these NS Sd70m-2's? Anthony G.
I am doing an M-2 in the red/white/blue scheme with FEC on the ends and Rail America on the sides. I have it painted just awaiting decals.
Here's a progress shot on the FEC unit. I know they eventually had black underneaths but I kinda like the real light grey look and it existed for a few. Still working out the details with the stripes from my decal maker. Thanks to Bob Horn as he sent me some Scotchlite for the sills. After this unit, I have plans for a CITX M-2. Working on the decals for that one also. They are a little easier but it did take a while to draw up the nose stripes as one big decals. Still have to convert the loco over to an M-2 with the detail kit. I also drew up the MRL nose stripes at the same time I did the CITX ones. I am going to have them printed but I am a little hesitant doing that one up yet because I think KATO will eventually announce it for a production run. One of their ads showed a CSX blueprint and behind it was an MRL one. So I am saving myself the work fo rright now.
Well, here's my MRL ACe. I just used the F45 stripes on the nose and added as needed. I also lined-up the stripes to prototype, only 3 white stripes go to the edge. I still have the get the last little triangular pieces on the sides at the top of the center section of the nose to be totally accurate. The correct "Montana Rail Link" and "SD70ACe" decals are in the microscale remote Caboose set...? right where they belong:tb-err:. The Trainworx detail set did wonders for this unit, added the fans and rear grills as well as milled the chassis to be see thru.
