I'm curious- Were these hoppers native to the D&RGW? Or acquired elsewhere and brought in by the D&SNG? Boxcab E50
Ben, great shots! Nice to see the contrast between summer and winter. Boxcab, I think these things may have been aquired as they only appeared on the line in the last few years...unless they were brought in from some other fragment of the DRGW.
Looking around the net I found this: http://www.geocities.com/drgwlpd5/DSNG-Equip.htm It seems that these hoppers may indeed be indigenous to the DRGW/D & S
John- Take a glance at this photo. Sure looks about the same. http://www.ebtrr.com/pics/l-myers/ebt_787.jpg Boxcab E50
M.O.W equipment has always been one of my favorite topics. Thanks for sharing your pics here. Have fun!
I figured it would be nice to see Silverton in winter for folks who have never been. A lot of snow up there and we have had a MILD winter! Saw more snowmobiles and dogsleds on the roads than cars
I enjoy being different now and then. And will photo in rain, fog, gloom. After all, railroading is 24/7/365. Not just in brilliant blue skied sun. Boxcab E50
IIRC, and I'm far from an expert on narrow gauge, in the NG heydays, most coal and other bulk products were hauled in GS gons, and drop bottom gons. Steel hoppers such as this don't fit D&RGW NG pre-1960 spinoff.
