I suppose laughing is a better coping strategy than other potential methods. Sent from the magical mystery box
Although it might not be as effective or painful as a much deserved wake up call type boot in their cabooses.
In a way, I'm kind of surprised that another auction site hasn't opened up to compete. I know there were a few but they never took off. But now with the monkey shines that is being pulled now, I would think something would arise.
I think what's arisen are splintered alternate venues... there are three or four on Facebook, there's still the YahooGroup "N Scale Yard Sale," and there's here of course. And there's Amazon though my quick look there left me underwhelmed. It continues to be really difficult to dislodge that 500 pound gorilla. An alternative really needs to be materially better in order to get people to absorb the "switching costs" (no pun intended).
Another problem is just the number of buyers and sellers. Getting both to migrate to a new site is a huge undertaking and most people won't want to do it. Look at the money that Beezid has spent on TV commercials and the like. They still don't have but a fraction of a percent of the business that Fleebay has (granted they are using a different format). It's just like dating sites (or any other type of site for that matter). Unless there is a large number of people already there, there's no reason that others will be willing to migrate there. EHarmony is doing over a billion dollars a year. There are dozen of other dating sites...some are even totally free, but if there isn't a good number of people already there, you are swimming in a shallow pond.
I've got it, FLake.com. A new auction site like EBay, minus the b@&%$#!+. You can either see it as F is better than E, and lake is well self explanatory, or my favorite, everyone will call it the "flake". Sent from the magical mystery box
Has anyone used Bonanza.com? http://www.bonanza.com/items/search?q[catalog_id]=&q[filter_category_id]=&q[in_booth_id]=&q[shipping_in_price]=0&q[sort_by]=relevancy&q[translate_term]=true&q[search_term]=n%20scale
Well it loads model railroad stuff fairly quickly but then I tried to refine the search to something more specific and after 5 minutes it still had not done anything but indicate it was still loading. I may be retired but I still don't have that much time.
Well, I just looked. Nothing really eye catching. I narrowed my search to several specific brands. The Kato N scale page was seven items, five of which were unrelated to model railroading idiotic t-shirts. I ran into t-shirts several other times. This is not impressive at all.
Of the 8 items when searching for Kato Unitrack, when one is a Pokemon iPhone cover, I hold no hope whatsoever that I will find anything I am likely to want on a site.
This is a new one for me. What is it? Another of the cheap bid sites, where you win something for a few dollars, then after all the fees you didn't really save much at all?
I see the Beezid commercials all the time. Always wondered the same thing. Bet thier fees make all of Fee Bay's fees look ridiculously low.
Beezid advertises like crazy during hockey and basketball games. I saw another site that works the same way, and the fine print that flashed up says that the cost you pay for an item doesn't include the amount you pay for each bid you make.
I believe I heard BeeZid bids only go up .01 each bid untill someone wins. With fees per bid...that could get outta hand FAST !!!!
