OK...everyone had to have a first layout and usually they are never finished because you learn so much building the first one that you want to start on the second (and third, etc.), but here are two layouts by the same seller that will haunt my dreams (I really don't want to be mean but they have everything that makes me cringe on a layout...snap track, BAD track alignment, floating bridge rail, mono color out of the package scenery, poor painting, and a spinning 'flying' jet). I don't see how a folded loop with no switches or sidings can also really support 'automatic 2 train operation'. $390 and $330... http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-Tab...617220?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item2a2a519984 http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-Tab...212537?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item2a2a793379
[h=1]MUST SEE THIS N SCALE CUSTOM COAL LOADING BUILDING WITH GREAT DETAILS & WORKERS[/h]Yes, you must see the custom detailing that comes right from the box. Add a chunk or two of moss and you're done. Granted it's only $13 starting bid but they did say 'MUST SEE'. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MUST-SEE-TH...793117?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item19dae7979d
A stock Model Power Southern Pacific 40' box (mis-posted in the Atlas category)...$20 This car is a particular pet peeve of mine since there is NOTHING that is even close to being prototypical (Model Powers fault, not the sellers). http://www.ebay.com/itm/SOUTHERN-PA...024116?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item2ec20b6c34
Not that this listing isn't insane, but I don't see any High Speed. I do see a bunch of Atlas and Arnold, though. -Mark
This thread often makes me cringe when posters mock our less than ept bretheren's attempts at unloading their so-so custom stuff. But wow, these layouts are really awful. Lazy, uninspired, and unworkable doesn't even begin to cover it. How about "Yikes"? -Mark
OK - here is one I just found - ONLY $9.99 for a box, a bunch of sprues(with no parts) maybe a couple of windows, and the fence that came with the kit. REALLY - I mean common sense tells you that there is nothing of the coal company in here other than the fence. http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-Tra...739260?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item2ec7645dfc
Spookshow, I agree and almost didn't post that one but they were both just so gloriously BAD that I felt it would be an injustice not to do so. Normally I would never make fun of anyone's first attempt at building a model railroad (especially when there are dozen of 'vintage' modellers who have never built a layout at all...nothing wrong with that but I like to give bonus points for making the effort).
Same number, same reporting marks, different cars.....will the real PRR please stand up. http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-scale-Atl...353271?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item3cd0a29377
At least that was an error from the factory, and not something he custom painted and was just lazy when it came to numbering.
Questionable as authentic railroad models. But perhaps COLLECTABLE as a prime documented example of manufacturer goof-ups, like the postage stamp with the picture printed upside down....
I butted in and contacted the seller to mention this lack of "kit" and also that the doors look from out of another kit. At least he put in a photo. (I once bought a box listed as a new unbuilt kit that came looking essentially like this....) This current seller removed the listing and said he had other "junk" boxes to mix together and will re-list...
I ended up one time listing a bunch of "junk" as this seller called it one time. All it was, was nothing more than "leftovers" out of several kits. I fully disclosed what the leftovers were (windows, doors, misc parts and pieces) and what kits they were out of. I think IIRC that I even clipped out the front cover of each kit and included that in the package when it shipped. I only put a $0.99 starting bid on it though. I sold it so long ago I dont remember what it ended up selling for. I kick myself now for selling it as one can never have enough "junk" lying around when bashing a model together.
Jugtown - thats really nice, I almost did that, but I let the past get to me (when a few had said not nice things back to me). I won a sale a while back of similar nature, it showed an FC Rode (HO at the time) kit, & not enough pictures, but all seemed well. I got it, and it was just all kinds of parts, some good, some wierd. I did send a note (a kind one) to the seller, who kinda got jumpy, and refunded me way too much for my taste. I 'repaid her back' to bring the price back to a fair one for both of us, she was extremely elated, and then I also shared that such 'boxes' need to be listed as scratchbuilding parts - detail parts etc as there are people who would be more likely to bid on it then.
I saw this and had to laugh. Not that the seller is asking an outrageous price or anything, but the description. Custom painted and take a look at the box! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Delaware-Hu..._RR_Trains&hash=item53f7a49400#ht_1346wt_1091
And just what are custom about these 2 cars? http://www.ebay.com/itm/CUSTOM-MTL-...el_RR_Trains&hash=item4ac37dadee#ht_44wt_1328 http://www.ebay.com/itm/CUSTOM-MTL-...el_RR_Trains&hash=item4ac37dafa3#ht_44wt_1328
