I saw a strange train on the NF main line to day. I am not sure what it was for. There was one engine with a red and white flatbed car and then a red and white caboose. Very short train that was moving slower than most on these rails. The flat car was propose built to hold a very heavy load. there were multiple trucks to help support the heavy load. the Load looked like it might be somekind of coil, maybe. I did not have a good look at the name on the flat car and caboose. I think it was something like "Malabo" If anyone knows anything about this please let me know. Thanks John
I'll guess the caboose was for someone from the company responsible for the high-and-wide load to keep an eye on it.
The train was an 053 high and wide. The train was hauling a large piece of equipment for Alstom. The cars were all painted for MAMMOET. It originated in Charleston at the port, but I don't know where it was going. I shot some pictures of it in Rock Hill, SC about 12:45 yesterday. There were 2 gentlemen riding the caboose to watch and make sure the load got through OK. The yard crew had to pull all of the cars out of the tracks beside the mainline before the high and wide came through.
Mammoet is a global company specializing in heavy lifting and transport of BIG stuff like turbines, engines, bridges, etc etc. Regarding rail, they'll ship a large load on a special flat car, with one of their cabooses to accompany the load from origin to destination. (These are high $$$ loads...) An employee will be in the caboose the whole trip http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=102879
This High and wide loads are interesting. Last year I had the chance to see a tranformator here in our village! high wide heavy Wolfgang
Railfanning Schnabel CEBX #800 - April 15, 2005 We had a simular train come into Denver in April 2005 that allot of Railfan's had a great time chasing. Your train was likely setup simular to this one...
I'd sure like to see the interior of this caboose. Home away from home? All the comforts of? Boxcab E50
OK, I got some images uploaded to railimages. Hopefully I linked them right. http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/showphoto.php/photo/100282/ppuser/7094 http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/showphoto.php/photo/100280/ppuser/7094 http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/showphoto.php/photo/100281/ppuser/7094
I work at a power plant, what you guys saw was a turbine rotor by the support brackets and shrouding. Probably a replacement for a coal plant out west and one of multiples for the plant. Alstom made the replacements for our plant but ours were hauled by barge.
A few shots of shipped Alstom turbines These photos are from my plants turbine replacement, I was also looking at the other H&W photo posted, that appears to be a main generator casing or rotor shipping container for a power station.
