Yeah, I was thinking that. But for us guys modeling the past, it might work out quite nicely. I think I'll give it a shot just for fun and see what happens.
This is a great tutor but I have one question. How do you know which wire is the common? I can not tell from the pictures if there is a difference in colors on the wires.
What I use for common is the negative lead; Richmond Controls makes it a bit shorter than the positive. I ALWAYS test to make sure I've got it right before soldering! There have been occasions when I've got it wrong...
Another signal shot with some of Uncle Pete's finest: The good news is all signals are now built and planted with the exception of a couple dwarfs (dwarves?) and that's a big load off my shoulders.
Your signals look great jim! I cant wait to get started on some of my own to have pre built for my future layout
Sometimes they let the old dogs out to play - a quartet of SD40-2s lead an auto parts train past the Oakville Yard throat:
You probably knew it was coming...Thanks to Craig Martyn, the Sub feels more modern now that one of the last previously unavailable modern cars has been produced: Here's a closer shot showing some of the exquisite detail work on these cars: And a still closer shot; painted bearings! Stencil on the trucks!: And you can read the lettering! First with his spine cars and now with the reefers, Mr. Martyn has placed his company at the apex of N scale. Dare we hope what is yet to come? Thanks, Craig!
These are the first photos I have seen of these cars. Great detail on the cars and still a great layout!
I'm kind of surprised there aren't more pix out there...they have flown off the shelves most everywhere I'm aware of. The bar has definitely been raised, in several areas. And thanks for the kudos on the layout, guys. The operating signals are kind of the frosting on the cake...
Ahhh! My Late Summer/Early Fall vacation - the last ten days were nearly totally taken up with family but yesterday and today came the highlight of my year: the Illinois Railway Museum's Members/Showcase Weekend - this year featuring David Cloke's 1:1 4-4-0 Leviathan. Here she is entering station track two today. Yesterday was absolutely perfect but I left my camera in the car! Today with intermittent rain and a chilly east breeze I simply had to take a few shots to share. Anyone who thinks steam is not a draw needs to see this next picture: around 100 people standing in the rain just watching Leviathan's crew service the engine between runs. A few more days of family and then it's back to signals and Oakville!
Great to see you got up to IRM again.. Even with me being under 2 hours away I wasn't able to make it up to see the Leviathon.. dumb work schedules.. There has been a pretty big debate with IRM/IRM fans about the profitability of steam operations.. and it always shows that people will come if it runs.
Yeah, I won't miss this weekend. My heart's at Union, no question, even if I can't live in the area - too expensive. But I can get back once a year - luckily we have family and friends in the area so that's another excuse. Anyone reading this, if you haven't been there, you need to go if you're in the area. Just ask anyone who has...
I wouldn't bet the ranch...the steam team is still taking out tubes and they tell me there's a crack in the mud ring. I hate to be pessimistic, so let's wait and hope and see! Wouldn't surprise me to see ATSF 92 up and running first, though.
