Russell: Is there a flood or something? The bridge looks like it is resting on the water and the small building appears to have water in the windows of the lower floor. Thanks. Also, I always thought "Seabrook" would be a great name for a port city on a layout.
Looks like there was a walkway or safety area on the left side where the supports are wider than the track ties.
Yeah, I found a whole roll of B&W negatives that I shot from the highway 146 lift bridge that day showing everything under water. Never printed them for some reason. It had to be a very high tide as it is right on Galveston Bay. Sometimes a very strong wind out of the south will pile up water through the narrow Bolivar Roads into the bay causing a lot of flooding. I don't think it had anything to do with a hurricane or tropical storm either.
Here’s a bridge I got awhile back, about 2 mile west of Casey, ILL You can still read PENNSYLVANIA RAIL ROAD I’ve got several bridges photos I post one or two now an then inch
Here are some Railroad bridges I shot today. http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2599350580093533220HlYcaY http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2478236430093533220RterLy http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2249231530093533220QtNLKP
This is cool. Punch in these coordinates into Google Earth to see what this place looks like today. 29.549500,-95.023800
Wow! The construction seems too gossamer to hold it up; OTOH, it is still under construction. There is a train track following the river on the center, lower left.
Speaking of old Southern Pacific swing bridges, I just found this one on Google Maps. Plug these coordinates into the search window on Google Maps. Use Satellite image. +29° 27' 39.60", -94° 58' 26.40" Google Earth should get you the same results. This is south of the swing bridge I posted a photo of above, on the same abandoned line. This is crossing Dickinson Bayou just west of Galveston Bay.
Here’s a couple more bridges. First one is the old NYC bridge [no longer in use] over Big Creek in Clark county, IL Taken by a friend of ours from his para-plane Next is INRR bridge in Dugger, IN. Then the old NYC [CSX] bridge over the Wabash river, Terre Haute, IN inch
That one looks identical to the NYC bridge at MP 152 over in Painesvile, OH. It was originally 4 tracks and now carries 2 tracks over the Grand River. Over 70 trains a day use it. Google maps
