I got started on growing the forest. This is only about 1/4th of the large trees that I've made. I've got four different colors of foam so I can vary the shades a bit.
Great looking trees. What do you use for the armatures? I like to use the seed pods from Nandina Shrubbery, they have little red berries during the summer and dry up early winter. Usually harvest the pods in January thru March. Don't have a good photo at this time, will see if I can find one and post it. Shrubbery, nee nee. Joe
I know a guy, his name is Roger, Roger the Shrubber. Thanks. Those pictured are SuperTrees. They also go by the name of Sea Foam trees. Probably not allowed to say who carries them, but do a search for SuperTrees Seafoam and you'll find them. Also search for videos on how to decorate them, there are a bunch of different methods. I pruned and painted them, then covered them with ground foam. I'm curious to see your Nandina Shrubbery...
Joe, Thanks for images. Are you just using the stems for the armatures of the trees and adding foliage clusters or the likes to ends? Not bad looking...
Everytime I hear Shrubbery I think about Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail, my 2nd favorite movie just bearly behind Apollo 13. One of the guys I worked with has a teen son who said that Apollo 13 had problems because Forest Gump was driving the spaceship. Kids can say the funnest things. Joe
That's because it's Eric Idle from Monty Python's "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" from 1975. In that image he was portraying Roger the Shrubber.
Sooo, the Knights of Nee are going to be hiding in amongst the 'shrubbery?' Definitely a top ten movie!
In between making trees, I did finally get back to finishing up the reeds along the creek bank. I didn't go crazy with them, just enough to get the idea. Here's the link to the blog post if you'd like to see how made them. https://thelittlerockline.blogspot.com/2022/05/reeds.html
I have really enjoyed seeing your efforts on this thread, some astounding modeling for sure. How you gonna make "cat-tail" stalks/weeds? I have very dear friend that was a "ROCK" employee, he and I have had some great discussions on same, mostly how the CRIP employees were very dedicated folks that saw their employer basically "piss" away their existence, he said they had customers, offering to pay them out of their pockets to keep rail service. Such a sad, if not criminal thing management did to the Rock. Great to see it alive in your efforts. Please carry on Sir.
Thanks for the kind words! In case you didn't see it, I left a link in the post that takes you to my blog post that shows the process. I'm sure there are better ways to make the "Wild Corndogs". I didn't put a lot of thought or effort into them. Thanks and I agree... From what I've read, it wasn't just the management, the Government didn't offer much help either, and the delayed FRA decision just added to it.
As I recall, there was also a strike. Which such timing could not be much more damaging. A rather lousy decision, IMHO opinion.
