They sure do Tom! I probably have way more hoppers than I need. I need to start culling the fleet some. I need to look at a few other types of cars as well, I seem to have an over abundance of box cars I don’t use any more. The cars I use, I need to add some. I’ll probably use some of my surplus to trade for what I need, mainly tank cars. Thank you Sir!
I picked up a couple of gondolas at the train show yesterday. Weathered with airbrush acrylics, Pan Pastels. I upgraded with steel wheels and Kadee couplers. They are ready for revenue service.
Even thought I'm an avid Frisco fan and modeler, I gotta admit that this hopper looks like it's closing in on its 50-year retirement. At least it didn't get any Big Nasty lettering on the side (or as I heard a certain Santa Fe modeler north of Tulsa refer to that road as the B&N) Also, those clapped out KO hoppers are quite prototypical- I was north of Winfield, KS at my uncle's funeral and interment at a Veteran's Cemetery last year. and on my way to the family luncheon , I was lucky enough to spot 4 Watco SD40-2s, scooting along at the ballast-scorching speed of 10 MPH, with a bunch of former ATSF hoppers in tow, on its way to Winfield.
Hi Bob! Glad to see you again! Yeah I bet those 40’s were scorching along a 10, and rocking bumper to bumper in the process! SKOL has dropped a whole bunch of new ties around Tulsa lately. I bet before long, they can hit 12! BTW, I bet those hoppers came from that SF B&N guy! He’s a regular operator at the Port and has been a great source for inspiration on my modeling and weathering efforts. If you can ever get to Tulsa on a weekend, come by the new location for GCMRA, it would be great to meet you. Thank you for the compliments! Check my sig, we run a FB page now if you are into that sort of thing. Take care, Dale
Sw1200 022 joins the roster at the POC. Painted by my friend Sammy Carlile (Santa Fe Hereford Subdivision). This is the first port livery the Double Deuce wore.
Hi Tom and Mike, Thank you! I am very happy with how 022 turned out. The only rolling stock the railroad had was the locomotives. Those are going away now. Omnitrax took over rail operations on the first of November. I have been told that the locomotives are parked awaiting disposition . Not sure what that means for now. I guess I’m modeling a Fallen Flag now. LOL I model 2010 to 2015 so I don’t need to repaint anything. Small favors! Take care guys! Dale
I decided to go ahead with getting one of these on the layout for use during operations at the grain elevators if our visitors wanted to use it. It will end up way grungier than 022 when I’m done. I actually have 2 of these I can put on the layout. The plan is for back dating to the late seventies or early eighties for some operations. That will bring Frisco and Santa Fe on for interchange traffic. This one is almost done.
Nice little center cab Hit me up with a pm have a special project going I can't say online until it's done Hopefully you would like to be part of it
Cool running a twin come-apart powered GE Cummins are know as come-aparts seen my share of them break I
Thats a great scene Dale. That hopper cars weathering is spot on buddy! I have a 44 tonner (undec) that may be looking for a new home sometime.
