I'm working on my first DC layout a ran into a beginners problem I'm not able to find any advice on: I'm trying to use deceleration modules and voltage limiters so I'll be working with adjecent blocks with different voltage. For example I want to limit power in stations to 4V so that every train slows down automatically. The locos don't seem to mind but all the Kato interrior lighting equipped cars connect the blocks which leads to voltage spikes, which actually might be harmful. The solution I figgured out so far is: 1) disconnect the wires on 1 side of each car so there is no connection between the fron and the rear 2) put a short insulated piece of track between the blocks so that the wheels on 1 side of the car can't create the connection. I expect I'm going to have quite some flickering of the interrior when going over turnouts this way. Is there another solution to this? Thanks a lot!
The only way I can see (easily) is a dropping resistor (or some load, even a light bulb) in series of that block power feed. The resistor has to have a wattage rating to take the 'load' of the engines. Past that you would have to do a search for exactly what resistance would be needed via electronic formula(s).
The best solution I figgured out so far is have all the "slow blocks" sensor-triggered and put the sensors far enough into the block so that the whole train is inside the block when the voltage changes. That will work for the deceleration/acceleration modules but it would be far too complex for the plain speed limit sections. I also discovered Tomix Tmos, which I'm probably gonna use to operate the line I'm not operating.
He knows how to do that. He just wants the passenger cars to stop passing voltage from one block to the next as their trucks bridge the insulators.
