Two older diorama projects are almost finished. Protective cases were added. Backdrops must be added in the future.
No - this is not area of my competence. I friend of mine who is running advertising supplies business did them.
“It’s not what you know, it’s who you know” Nice work, Pawel. These little gems are well protected. Matt
I got the advise to improve my loundry drying up on the backyard. Instead of paper i used small pieces od tissue tith mixture of water and white glue. Half dried it was properly shaped. I like the result. It is definietle more realistic.
Warehouse buildings were provisionally put in place: The first building was permanently attached. There is still some work to be done with the ground around it: Horizontal rail was attached to the wall together with supports. It will be used by portal cranes:
Second building was permanently attached. I still have some job to be done with serrounding of those warehauses. It is time to test portal cranes constructions (modified Archistories product).
Pawel, I like the cranes! Are they rapid prototype, kits, or scratch built? Also what did you use for the crane rail, a rail and ties cut from a full rail? (oops, looks like I missed what was in parentheses.) I like how you made that rail more rusty. Scott
Regarding those cases, in the US we have "Tap Plastics" but basically any plastics shop may be able to make them to your specifications. Small ones are not hard to make if you have a table saw with the right blade, or buy pieces from a frame shop, cut and work the plexiglass with the paper backing on. You can dress the edge all the way to a glass like shine with progressively finer grits and plastic polish. Assemble with an acrylic adhesive, these work like thin plastic cement. it wicks into the joint and dries quickly but you want to hold the pieces with a jig or clamp while the glue sets.
Cranes are modified (kitbashed) cardboard Archistories kits: https://www.archistories-shop.com/e...?ObjectPath=/Shops/62672593/Products/114111_X Ground rail is Marklin full rail cut into two pieces. The rail attached to the building is double T profile from Plastruct.
Cranes were finished. I plan to install them at the end of the work in order not to destroy it unintentionally: It is time to start the work on barges, tugs etc. Some are already ready to be placed on the diorama but some are still "semiproducts". I think there are too much of them ...
Hi Pawel, once again great additions. Quite a collection of barges you've got there. Although you have shown mastership in weathering before, this video might still provide some inspiration. Kaustav Chatterjee from India did some fine work in N scale: Matt
Pawel, The buildings look good. Nice job on the cranes! Is there a reason why the cranes are painted differently? I agree, too many barges! But they all look good! If you do not use them all, will it be difficult to choose which ones will be in the diorama? Scott
When I examined old photos I found that cranes were not painted the same colour. Of course on black and white photos it is difficult to determine what was the real colour... I already made preliminary selection of the barges It is time to start to work with choosen items. I will make two of this type: First one will be closed. I build support structure: Next stage is to cover it with small pieces of cardboard: Adding some details including rudder, painting, weathering... To make some life I added two ladies and ... drying washed things (this was inspired by real life photo).
I think this is an example of making "something from (almost) nothing". Observing reality and collecting photos is always a good source of inspiration. The second barge will be made without covers and the load of coal. I start with internal partitions and base for coal load (balsa wood): Some details were added including rudder, coal load done, painting, weathering and two people to make it more lively ...
