I finally got around to patching this Kato dash 9 BNSF to one of the prototypes that are being used by KCS. Here in Wylie Texas they have a few of them on site from time to time.
Interesting. I had missed this in the railfan grapevine. How many units like this one? Also, am unfamiliar with Wylie, Texas. Is this somewhere along the former Louisiana & Arkansas Ry?
I'm not sure how many units exactly just what I'm referring to in the link I provided. Wylie is about 15miles northeast of Dallas and KCS is probably part of the line you mentioned above. They used to use the old Santa Fe freight yard in Northeast Dallas for shuttling containers back and forth but a few years back they built their own intermodal yard in Wylie and now very rarely go into Dallas, maybe once a night. KCS has been in Wylie for many years.
Now I am getting curious. Looked through several Official Guides. Older ones showed both AT&SF (GC&SF), plus SSW. !(80's version shows only the AT&SF. KCS must be using some sort of trackage rights agreement. Guess I'll look for a system map.
Getting a bit off topic, but... Found it. Louisiana & Arkansas RY. (LA&T.) But no mention of Wylie as part of the line. So am wondering if they abandoned part of their line for operation over the AT&SF. Hmmm.
You're probably right on the trackage rights since in days gone by both AT&SF and Cotton Belt went through Wylie and Wylie still uses the old AT&SF yard in north Dallas where as I mentioned earlier used to be used as a small intermodal yard, not sure what it's used for these days but I miss the trains going down the local hwy here a few times a day, now I believe it's just night haulers so I don't get to see any. :-(
