But wait, there's a 25% off sale from this seller! Plus 15% more off when you buy four items! Too bad the seller doesn't have four of these https://www.ebay.com/itm/233804447273 or these... https://www.ebay.com/itm/233840967324 I could go on...
All, When I check out ebay for Model Trains regardless of Scale the ebayer would list them as Toy Train and not as Scale or see the Heading scale category they are posting the item in with a ridiculous $ , then there are those so-called train shows with a vender almost the same ridiculous $ and if the items sell that person , ebayer could possibly be that very same train show Vender and if the item(s) ecstatically at the item $ it or they sold for . No, I am not surprised . Tom
If you are going to charge a premium price, at least use the flash or turn on a light when you are taking the picture... https://www.ebay.com/itm/164921379260?hash=item26661489bc:g:dbcAAOSwsSlgoGz8
I think you're right, and I would throw in antique shops and flea markets which also sell on eBay. As an aside, Colleen and I like to "antique" these days and I'm often amused by the asking prices for "entry-level" HO Scale trains. N Scale appears much less frequently, unless you count the High Speed items we love to hate
When your talking under $75 for an engine, it is high. But, if it is in great condition & has the right scheme, then there might be a case for the price. The seller may be starting a little give to see if he can find a sale. What is crazy is the same or similar item listed for $1000+. I do not see how this works in a digital age. Also what makes a “special run” caboose worth $145: https://www.ebay.com/itm/KD-51000-C...E-/224508677001?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249
Larry....He has a number of these in different roads...all 'CUSTOM' at a PREMIUIM PRICE' and adds 'Correct Cupola' (NOT). Very High price and not nearly close to 'CORRECT' for a NP 24' caboose.
Marty: at least it isn't just the MT cupula. Probably something he did himself and that is the value he thinks it is worth (that it doesn't sell says he's the only one who thinks the value is that high). He has a TON of freight cars he's selling...looks like he got an old copy of a MT auction guide since all of the prices I looked at were closer to pre-2008 prices than a post-2008 prices. Maybe thinking start high and slowly lower the price until is sells. At the same time, I hate that Ebay is barely an auction site anymore. I did a search for Southern Pacific in freight cars and got 923 hits...but only 66 were even auctions (and most of them had VERY HIGH opening bid prices).
We're fighting postage inflation in our own way as seen below. After my mother passed away last year, my wife and I were looking through a desk drawer in her home and found all kinds of older stamps, many of small denominations. Paid a bill tonight and consumed a bunch, though there are many dozens more. It's kind of fun adding them up. I wonder if Post Office scanners are programmed to recognize old stamps? They'll have fun with these ...
And they still don't get it N Minitrix 2002 Fairbanks Morse UP Diesel H-12-44 Loco #3727 (Tested-no box) | eBay plus 10.60 shipping... Your total > 150..55 I Looked at ATLAS's WEBSITE Atlas Model Railroad Company, Inc. Online Store - N DASH 8-40CW SILVER CONRAIL QUALITY #753 the $ is 139.95 and this ones Brand NEW. Tom
We occasionally have wood duck stay on one of our ponds (we have several wood duck boxes mounted for housing)...wood ducks look MUCH BETTER in person than what is on that stamp.
I hadn't noticed that until I read your post and you're right. I usually check the N Scale body shell listings, but the prices are now so high that I never look at the pricing details and yep, a bunch of them are Buy It Now prices with no bidding. I still cannot understand why so many Sellers list items at sky-high prices and run the same listings for months and even years without change and without a sale. I edit my saved search criteria to omit listings from more and more people it seems.
Barnum said, "There's a sucker born every minute." I guess they're waiting for one of them to get into trains...
Understand that ebay has been pushing for this BIN for a long time. As a general rule, things turn faster. Most auctions are 7 day & usually ending on the weekend. With BIN type they end when they end & the average turn is faster. Remember, for all of these you can make an offer, even if the seller does not have that checked. Of course $1000 for a used average train item is a bit over the hill, but pricing 10% above recent sales is not. It becomes like selling a house. You set the price above the price you will accept, because you know that the buyer will offer an amount below asking. This is just the seller taking more control of what he is wanting to get for an item. The situation when there is a bidding war for an item is actually a rarity on ebay. Most bids actually come in in the last 5-10 seconds. Often the initial listing price is what it sells for. The other thing, with BIN auctions the seller can list to run until it sells. ebay tells the world that an item ends after a month, but if it does not sell it is automatically relisted at the same price. The seller does not have to do anything, unless he wants to, and that can be done a while later. This frees him up to list anytime of the day & any day of the week. The other thing to understand, with BIN items, the seller has a number of these per month that are free to list. So its does not cost him anything until the item sells. If he is convinced that the junk caboose is worth $1000. He can have it listed at that price indefinitely and likely at no cost to him. If you see something that is of interest, contact the seller. He may be willing to negotiate on price, particularly if it has been up a while.
