They look like bouquets of flowers. Perhaps a homecoming or departure. They do seem to be waving at people. It doesn't seem like a very comfortable trip for the troops. Jim
I think this is a bouquet of flowers with ears of grain or long grass... The floor of an open car should be upgraded as well: Installed and weathered It is time to prepare troops. It is true that trip was not comfortable. There were also special car for troops. They were eguipped with wooden bunks (beds) and coal stoves. Light blue berets are prototypical for the troops of "Polish Marines". Military equipment is prototypical for those units. It is interesting that in Cold War times those troops officially were named Seashore Defence Units. But they were training for landing in Denmark ... The first one is installed in the car:
I decided to made two cars for troops. I changed interior in the second one. I removed original weight to lower the floor and new weights were placed on the ends of the car: Troops were placed in the middle of the car: Final apperance:
I need some flat cars for military equipment for the train representing 1965 year. There is not too much Marklin stuff to be repainted into PKP so I decided to build them based on Marklin covered cars (banana car and some longer one): Due to the fact that I had to remove weight from a longer one I filled some small places using lead (shown on the picture): I added some support structure under the shorter one: Laser engraved wood floor added:
Longer car's body building: Weathering the floor: Body painting started, shorter car is getting final shape Longer car body almost finished and painted:
Self made flat cars for military train ready with decals. Covered cars with troops were finished as well. Of course I must made some more ...
Pawel, Wow, nice upgrades! Were did you get the laser scribed deck, and what are the side posts on the flat car made from? I like the little detail on the top of the posts. Nice decal job as well. Scott
Laser scribed decks were made by one of my friends "on demand". There are similar products by MKB Modelle: https://www.mkb-modelle.de/baumaterial-h0-tt/bauplatten/holz-latten https://www.mkb-modelle.de/baumaterial-h0-tt/bauplatten/holz-bohlen Side posts are made from the same material. I cut stripes of desired size.
Scott, English is not my mother's tonque and I realized that I did not understand your question correctly. Vertical posts were made using two techniques. I used Marklin's spare parts to make posts on black flat car: https://www.1zu220-shop.de/Maerklin...-E201845-Runge-schwarz-10-Stueck::122139.html I did posts on the brown flat car by myself sutting plastic rods (Plastruct or similar).
Pawel, That's okay. You are a better man than me for being able to speak/write more than one language. And your work is still impressive. Thanks again for all the information. Scott
I like to mix projects in progress... It was a long time since I work on steam engine conversion. BR03-1077 was waiting for me for a long time: Those locomotives were used in Poland after WWII byt they were rebuild. Some photos: http://www.polskieparowozy.pl/index2.php?desc=on&par=pm3-5 The changes must be extensive and Dremel has to be used:
Good work, Pawel. Nice to see that it can be done. It is a beautiful loco and tender. Looking forward to progress reports. Best, Jim
