I just signed up a few minutes ago. I am a retired railroader, RR Historical Society Member and a modeler. I worked for the C&O, Chessie and CSX for 40 years in several locations. I'm glad to join this site.
Hi RailroadMO, welcome, glad to have you on board. I hope you'll give us anecdotes of your experience. Also tell us operating practices that we can use in our modeling. Speaking of which, what period, area, and scale do you model?
Hello, I model HO during the transition period from steam to diesel, with a little leeway here and there. I'll be modeling the old 17th Street yard in Richmond, VA. As far as operating practices, I have been out of modeling so long...about 20 years, that I'm almost a novice when it comes to that. Real prototype railroading on the CSX is rusty since I've been retired for 11 years and that company as you may know was totally turned around about 2017. A huge exit of personnel on all levels and crafts with the new Harrison reality!
Thanks for the welcome! Good stories...well being a real railroader, most of those stories are not fit to print! Some things are rather amusing, like a boxcar coming into the yard with a consist of s _ _ t. Also, as on all roads, sometimes workers forget to pay attention to detail and things go very wrong. I'll try to remember some old tales to share in a future post.
Welcome, look forward to seeing your modelling of Richmond. I presume C&OHS member? My Dad is a member and is a great resource.
