Im curious, how do you cut out your windows in the building -- every time I have tried to cut windows, I have ended up with crooked stuff TIM
I somehow fried two light effects. Cleaned up a mess and started to make a list of todos. That’s as far as I got this weekend.oh and cut some track.
Well, on this, the main building section is from the Walthers modern grain elevator kit. The windows are about the only thing in it that were square. No more comment there. However, when I have cut windows, I have done fairly well with a small sharp chisel blade and some filing.
Went back to school today, signed up for some lessons, cutting straight lines with a ruler and knife, scoring and glueing, in the end, I started to get point. 48 Foot Intermodal containers - I'm getting better at this. Next up a CNR 3rd Class Depot - First in cardstock and then in balsa! exciting.
Over the past week and a half I went back to the N Scale 3D printable roundhouse I was working on a couple months back as a fellow modeler in Italy was asking when the files would be up on thingiverse.com. Decided to put the test track that I was going to work on for the party on hold until the train room warms up some as I've got lots of other things I can work on in the mean while. This roundhouse has been a huge project and along the way I've come up with over 50 designs for parts of it and have ended up with 30+ that I've got up on my thingiverse.com account... https://www.thingiverse.com/sumner/designs ... which allow one to now print the whole roundhouse minus the inside floor and roof. I'm thinking is better to make the floor parts and the roof out of sheet styrene as printing all of that would be long prints just to have flat results. The styrene will also allow the roof to be one piece. I still need to break the floor up to deal with the inside trackwork and the fact that I want the finished floor to be level with the tops of the rails. I'll work on designing patterns next that will help in cutting out the styrene for the floor sections and probably the roof also. I also need to design the post/beams that will go inside and hold the roof up. I've printed all the parts needed for four stalls so will soon start on gluing them together. I'd like to end up with 12-14 stalls so won't glue the end wall on one side of the roundhouse until I print the rest of the stalls. If any of you take this project on I'd like some feed back so I could work on making it better. Started scratch build on 10 MIL photo paper. Eventually, it will be on Balsa, but for now paper is the choice. My start on the structure - Alberta Pool Elevators. Beside it is a very poor attempt at a CNR 3RD Class Depot and Passenger station. Once again I used too thick a paper. I'll go over the video and RTFM once more. The real-world Alberta Pool Elevators located in Scandia Alberta. Lots of detail to add to get the above looking like this. we'll get there.
The weather here has been cold and damp, so as I continue to work on the scenery I am using my little fan to help with the drying. The concrete trestle has now been installed. And the track for the bridge on the WP / eastbound line has been assembled and painted. This is a section of M/E bridge track with some of the bridge ties on each end being replaced with standard ties. Added the guard rails to match what I see in the prototype reference photos. The bridge is a Central Valley Model Works 1810 kit modified to match the prototype. After the bridge is weathered this track assembly will be glued to the bridge and the whole thing installed on the layout.
Just checking in with the weekend's progress on the depot so far. Got all of the cornice installed and most of the stone work installed on the track side. The stone work is turning out to be a major PITA probably in part because I insisted on milling the platform and applying the brick sheet. Now each of the vertical pieces needs to be individually fitted and still doesn't look as good as I would like in some cases. However, looking at the pilot model on the box cover, I see some of the same issues on it. One other thing I noted is that the areas where the is no brick work on some of the partition walls does not line up with the stone pieces. I went back and checked to be sure I had assembled the walls right side up. All the numbers appeared to be correct. Looks like maybe I should have assembled some of the partition walls upside down. At least this is not noticeable at the distance the structure will be placed from the front of the layout. Just a couple of things to pay attention to if anyone here is considering purchasing this kit. In spite of a couple of issues, I do still like it for my purpose.

THis past week: Well, I actually got quite a bit done -- I finished the passing siding in monte vista, laid the lead for the walsenburg interchange tracks (but I have a problem with the switch at the head of it) and I got the elevator track laid in Monte vista, so all in all it was a pretty good week I'll be out of circulation for a couple weeks but I'll be back, dont you worry!! TIM

In the past few days the bridge and all the track has been installed on the rear line Before installing the track I removed 4 ties and soldered in a PC board tie section. These come from California Tie & Timber Co. After the glue dried the track was cut here to create a gap for the gate interlock section. After the track is painted this will blend in so well that I will need to place some sort of marker alongside the track if I want to know where the gap is. And this afternoon I am installing a set of feeder wires for the gate interlock section. Hope to run some test engines through this evening. Once the testing is done the track will be painted and ballasted. Doing everything on the rear track before I start on the front track.
Those are track curve templates for bending flex track into specific curve radii. PECO makes them under TRACKSETTA brand and Fast Tracks as Sweep Sticks, among other manufacturers as well.
