There must be more and some earlier than this one if memory serves me. Here is the first one I purchased back in 2006... I'm sure as I open more rolling stock boxes, I'll get to the one purchased in 2008.
Someone here made decals and decorated some which they passed around to various members to photograph on their layouts. I believe they also sent along some of the decals which I used to decorate a car with.
We are going back a few years in time. I have the M-I car, and somewhere around here I still have a set of decals. There is a thread which the suggestion of reactivating the car tour was brought up. But to date there has been no further discussion.
A car tour? That's a super cool idea. Long ago we owned a Subaru and an odd-sized socket was required to do some maintenance, so someone hatched the idea of a Traveling Gnome Socket. It worked really well. When one guy was done with it, he'd forward it on to the next guy and on it went around the U.S.A..
That's right Ken, thinking about it I can't remember all the details but I'm sure pictures on individuals layouts were the order of the day before being shipped to the next person on the list.
Here is Mark Watson's post on the journey of TBX 3401. This was back in 2010 !!! https://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/tbx-3401-trainboard-lease-car.48233/ A lot of pics dont show up as they where posted under the old TB format. BUT...the story is still awesome to read... A video too............ The the traveling boxcar is in that same thread...
I have the TB Special Run MI boxcar. https://www.trainboard.com/highball...your-missouri-illinois-special-run-car.69331/ Even though the car doesnt say TrainBoard on it...the jewel case insert does... Here is on the team track...bottom right...as a static display....
So when are we going to get another special car? I have none . One of my favorite things on my railroads are the custom cars.
For the life of me, I can not remember taking this photo of the car going through Rosenberg. Obviously I photoshopped it into a prototype image taken in Rosenberg. It was still in pristine shape when it came through here.
The travelling gon was VERY cool !!! I had an idea for it, but no real layout. I do have a pair of the M-I cars. Still LOVE them !!! There was talk of another car to be made, but turned to be just talk.
Wish I had been where I could have jumped on board with this back then. If no new special car is in the works, would it be possible to do a new run of decals?
Almost as long as some actual freight car shipments take these days... or so I am told by someone in the business, for which "Precision Railroading" is a expletive.
