I hope all is well with everyone. I just got these Carlos Pinto vehicles this week. Man, they are addicting. The detail is amazing. Spoked wheels, gas caps, even hood ornaments. These are a couple of sets he makes. The car transporter with 4 vehicles and a set of 3 20's-30's vehicle. I'm still working on a city bus and a heavy duty wrecker. As usual I primed them with Tamiya primer and then random paint can colors, mostly Krylon. This is my second batch of them. I used a different technique for the windows. I used Faber Castell pigmented ink fine markers. I traced the window outline with a very fine one and then colored in the lines with a larger sized one. It seems to work almost perfectly. Advantage is that it dries to a gloss. If you make a mistake it easily comes off with a wet paint brush and paper towels. Sorry for the poor quality of the photos but I think you can see on one or two of them how crisp they look. Carlos was generous and included a couple of extras. The black Beetle is one of them. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everybody, Jim
Dang Jim, slow down so the rest of us can catch up! LOL. Excellent work my friend - and the random colors will look fantastic on a layout. Also thanks for sharing your detail tips (Fabre Castell marker) as always. This is the only way were going to make Z better, is when we continue to share tips and tricks to add quality and realism to our builds. I have virtually the same array of Carlos’ vehicles, unfortunately they are not on the priority list to begin work yet. Putting the final touches on the Mike Basher two stall engine house. I’ll share pics once it’s done. Regardless your work is inspiring for when I do start my Carlos Pinto vehicles.
Thanks, Lance. I'm learning as I go. I've garnered a lot of tips from others. The hobby is really about sharing. I have completed 3 of Mike Basher's kits. The Hunters Cabin, Stony Mill and the Spreader Shed. Photos to come. I like them a lot. The water wheel, noria, in stone mill building lingo, is amazing when it is completed. I have some tips to share on that as well. It looks very much like one in my neighborhood. It goes back to 1804. It was once part of a chocolate factory. It will find a home. I'm looking forward to completing the city bus. I will probably need 5-6 of them to represent a decent city module. BTW. If I can do this I think anyone can. I was not doing this 20-25 years ago. It has been acquired. Be well. Jim
Jim, I’m trying to find those Faber Castell pigmented ink fine markers. Would you be willing to please post a photo of the ones you used so we can see the names and sizes of the ink pens? I would love to try them out. John
Hi, John They are Product 1671-15 PITT artist pens Black fineliner XS=0.1mm, S=0.3mm, F=0.5mm M=0.7mm. They also make white ink fineliners as well. Product 1671-51 PITT artist pens, black and white. I get mine at Blicks. I'm fortunate to have one nearby. Jim
Hi All, if you are unable to locate these pens easily, try searching for technical pens online. If anyone remembers drafting pre-AutoCAD, these pens were widely used. They come in array of sizes, from .13mm and up. Some of the more expensive pens are refillable and you can use any colour of ink available. Be mindful to clean these pens regularly.
