Wow, that is a COOL park and such a beautiful station too. I'd love to see the park some day. Lots of interesting exhibits there.
Here's a sad sight. Long ago I volunteered on NJ's Black River & Western Railroad and, knowing the owner, slept aboard the Alexauken pictured here in July 1978. Some 30 years later before his death, the car was sold and moved to Ohio. This is how it looked a decade ago after being moved. [Photo not mine] I don't know what has become of it.
I clicked on "like" because of Hardcoaler's post, not the situation. Jeez, the criminals even find their way to rural areas. Doug
Thank you Point353 for the shot. I sent it on to a friend who also knew the "Alex" well. I'm amazed that someone would purchase a nice private car, route it 500 miles west with no apparent place to safely store it and then allow it to be destroyed. Adjacent to the Alexauken at Ringoes, NJ was the heavyweight Chenango, formerly Pullman sleeper Herald Square. The owner was rebuilding it into a business car and doing a proper job of it. It's still safely in Ringoes.
"Berthold Canola" A fast-moving westbound grain train charges into the low angle sun just east of Berthold, ND on the BNSF Glasgow Sub. A blooming canola field basks in sun near the tracks. The light is decidedly head-on here, but what are ya really gonna do?

Found in October 1987 at NS's steam shop at Irondale, AL was this tender from an L&N Class M-1 2-8-4. The Big Emma's were thoroughly modern steam locomotives, with the 1984 built by Lima in 1949. I'm guessing that NS had their eyes on it as a canteen. I don't know what became of it. The L&N saved and modified a number of their tenders for use in hauling diesel fuel. I found this one and a mate at Knoxville, TN in January 1978.
The tender from the 1984 is at the Kentucky Railway Museum. Here's a photo of it taken last year: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=5142663
Late afternoon finds SD40M-2 8575 and a sister, shoving wide open on an east train at Woodford, just below the Tehachapi Loop.
Big hooks from the east and the west. First is from 07/1982 of Conrail's at Allentown, PA. (Cue up Billy Joel's Allentown ) I'm uncertain of its heritage. Second is from 03/1997 of the Santa Fe's at Winslow, AZ. The sun was in a bad spot there.
